We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town.
We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town. Buses to areas out of the city seemed pretty regular. Wellington is a pretty switched on city, with a creative energy and plenty of things to enjoy. Cuba St which is pedestrians only has plenty of cafes and restaurants and the food is top notch. Our favourites for dinner were Loretta’s, Olive, Mr Go’s. Icecream and Creaming sodas at Duck Island, coffees at Pickle and Pie, Cheese Scones beautiful pastries and coffee at Myrtle’s. Some good clothing shops, also recycling shops where there was really good clothing for sale at low prices, good bookstores. A must visit is Te Papa Museum - Level 4 Māori and Pacific Island history is impressive. The museum’s shop is also worth checking out. The lobby of QT Hotel (there’s a golden hippo on the hotel’s exterior) - you don’t need to be a guest to wander in to view the lobby area which includes a magnificent private art collection and a ritzy bar. Plenty of bars with music and Sunday Farmers Market on the waterfront was bustling with plenty of fruit and vegetables along with brunch food and coffee available.

I enjoyed how close everything was to the hotel and how easy it was to walk to the places I wanted to see. The waterfront was nearby too. I did go by uber to Zealandia which was amazing and is a great place to visit.

Bus rides and train rides are awesome, just get yourself a Snapper card and more than one person can travel with that one card. Only one person can travel on that card on trains. Travelling in bus was also good, no hassle to driving or parking, bus service are almost everywhere till late nights and safe environments.

We thought Wellington was a beautiful City.
We thought Wellington was a beautiful City. We were there in late March. The weather was lovely and cool, just the right temperature if you like to explore a new location on foot. The bus system in the City is brilliant. The Metlink public transport card system can be a little intimidating but once you master it, it works exceptionally well. Otherwise, you can pay cash when travelling on the buses or trains, but it is quite significantly more expensive to pay this way. Also, it pays to check out the fare before you travel and have the correct money when getting on because nearly everyone uses the prepaid Metlink card so the driver has limited change. The seafood in New Zealand is the best in the world in my opinion. If you are staying centrally and have cooking facilities, I would recommend the Seafood Market in Lambton Quay or Cuba Street. It is not a huge shop but the fish comes in daily. Their fish and chips are pretty good as well. But there are plenty of seafood restaurants around that serve great food. Wellington is a a gorgeous city and reminded me very much of San Francisco.

Visited Te Papa Museum, Wellington Museum, Botanic Gardens...
Visited Te Papa Museum, Wellington Museum, Botanic Gardens and Portrait Gallery, all free access and excellent. Also took Cable Car (as you do) but the walk to and from Botanic Gardens is relatively easy as well. Went to Te Papa Museum and spent the entire day there - excellent. Ate at the Crab Shack and had the best meal in our entire NZ 2 week holiday - unfortunately, it was closed for 2 out of the 3 days we were in Wellington or we would have been back.
I have stayed at the hotel before. The number and quality of artworks provide a significant 'point of difference' for my husband and me when selecting somewhere to stay in Wellington. We love the gallery ambience - the array of contemporary New Zealand art is deeply pleasurable - a feeling that one never tires of! There are delights around every corner. We hope that this never changes. We are prepared to pay for the pleasure! We will be recommending the hotel to all of our friends who also love art and culture.
Having stayed at Citylife before many times I love the apartment style accommodation for my family. The kitchen is user friendly. The rooms are good. Beds comfortable. Location is superb and so easy to get around Wellington. Having a washer and dryer in the apartments are awesome for a family!
Perhaps from a sales point of view your staff could also upsell the 2 bedroom with 2 bathrooms to customers who are willing and wanting to pay a bit more at check in for the convenience of having 2 bathrooms.
Overall the Shepards Arms Hotel was excellent. Location was excellent, centrally located, easy access to the motorway, public transport and all the other Wellington hotspots. Staff are super friendly and really accommodating. The food on offer is yummy too. For an establishment close to the CBD another bonus is that there is free parking onsite but it does pay to arrive early or you may miss out. Highly recommend to other travellers, this is very good value for money.
The bed was very comfortable. Nice use of glass in the shower made an otherwise small room feel fairly spacious (but be aware that between that and the sliding glass, non-airtight bathroom door, you want to be sharing the room with a *very* good friend).
Staff were great. Wasn't allowed to use the gym or restaurant because of my vax status, but that's not the hotel's fault.
Aircon/heatpump, which isn't a given at this price point in Wellington.
breakfast was ideal from the OJ to great cereal choice and whole meal toast. The tea was strong and perfect for a days work
Excellent and charming facilities. Warm and comfortable. Easy parking, superbly located to work and relaxation in Wellington city. John is a wonderful host and it seemed all the other guests were very interesting and friendly.
Beats a sterile and impersonal fancy hotel hands down.
I chose it for easy access for Wellington station (it’s a few minutes round the corner) but it’s an easy walk into the CBD/quayside as well for sightseeing.
Apartment was sparkling clean, really well appointed and staff very helpful. Bed was really comfortable too! Would definitely stay again and will look at other Quest hotels when travelling in future.
The room was spacious, the bed was very roomy and comfortable. We had hired our rental car from the airport so the location was great. We were able to leave our carry on luggage for storage, while we went into Wellington. We enjoyed a drink at the bar. we decided to have brunch in the city.
This is the second time we have stayed at this Rydges Hotel. :-)
location was fantastic, right next to sky stadium where we were traveling for a sporting event and also the main train station. an easy walk from wellington city center as well.
the facilities were great and the rooms were very clean and modern. two adjoining apartments were a great option for a family. the staff was extremely helpful, too.
Room was large, clean and well-appointed. There was a mini-fridge, microwave and kettle to heat water, plus dinnerware and silverware, even a corkscrew! I arrived by train, but flew out and there was a convenient bus stop near the hotel that offered inexpensive and reliable service to the airport.
The layout of the apartment was great and spacious, and well presented. Great view from the balcony, location was perfect, close to the waterfront and the city centre. Wifi was great, TV and Netflix was awesome to relax with… which is not normal for a hotel. Everything about it was perfect
I liked the fact that we were able to book the hotel very last minute and had very accommodating staff who assisted us. I liked the location which was right next to a supermarket and city location. The room had all the necessities. I liked that there was 24 hour reception also.
This is a good hotel for us to stay overnight to attend events in Wellington city. It's clean and the beds are comfortable. It's not 5star, and could use some refurbishment, but for the cost, which includes breakfast, it's good value. We've stayed before and will stay again
The location of the hotel was so handy and was in walking distance of many of Wellington's main attractions and city centre. Check in/out was a breeze and the staff were lovely and made this process very easy. The room was clean and tidy and had a fresh feel about it.
We liked that the room was fully self-contained and clean, with nothing chipped, worn or threadbare. The central location offered a great starting point to explore Wellington City. Check-in and check-out was seamless and late check-out was greatly appreciated.
Amazing place to stay! Comfy rooms, clean & big bathrooms, great breakfasts and super friendly and helpful staff. The location is really handy to the main Wellington station and Parliament, as well as bus stops into the main city.
The hotel is close to the city sights and restaurants. Loved our room which was quiet and perfectly appointed. Breakfast was also perfect for our needs. Staff was gracious and helpful.
This apartment is centrally located, has beautiful architecture, massive windows for passive lighting and views of city. Will certainly stay here again
