San Sebastian is a beautiful, historic town. There is much history to learn (we had a private guide for this) along with all the beauty it offers We took the funicular up to the top of Mt. Urgull and walked along the Ondarreta beach from our dinner one night. We could have stayed several more days to go through the museum and just wander through the entire town, not just the Old Town. There was a bike ride that finished in the centre the day we stayed so it was very busy which added to the experience. Parking was not easy ,they give you very little room in the parking bays in the underground parking and forget about parking on the streets! We were there on a Sunday. Loads of tapas bars to choose from. I would have liked to shop but not a lot open ,but it was a Sunday after all! Look up , the buildings are wonderful.

There are restraints nearby where you can eat delicious Pinchos, so it was quite easy to get to. It was incredibly quiet from night to morning. Yes, there was no noise at all. I never once felt like I was in an unsafe place. Next time I'll try taking the bus.

San Sebastian is really a great city for views: you have 2 mountains accessible on foot with great views on the bay (concha), the city and the ocean. There is also nice architecture (Art Nouveau), a great basque history/art museum (San Telmo) and a maritime museum with an aquarium. And there is a great beach for surfing (Zurriola). Parks and beaches are beautiful. Food at some bars and restaurants is phenomenally good! I didn’t have time to visit museums, but I expect they are up to the quality of other aspects of public life. And people on the street and in the bars seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot. (Although everyone seems to love a holiday weekend.)

It is easy to get to the old town either by a 15-20min or or take the bus which stops right outside the hotel.
