Its a business hotel chain so you know what youre getting. Its clean, has the basic amenities, and its quiet. And I was right beside the elevator.
Spacious apartment on a smart, pedestrianised street in the centre of Oita (so-called 5th Avenue). Nice to have space after cramped business hotels.
This business hotel is brand new, but dusty. The staff is very nice in the breakfast room, but not at the reception. Breakfast is very good.
It's generally better than a business hotel, and it does have a good-enough public bath in the basement. The staff are attentive, too, and we didn't encounter any long lines. It's not a bad place, overall.
Only a few hundred metres from the station - and consequently within easy walking distance of the restaurant and shopping areas. And even the coast. APA is a reliable hotel chain. Everything was clinically clean and well organised. The room seemed larger than usual (I could walk around 3 sides of the double bed) and that was mesmerising. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Although more expensive than a business hotel, the room is literally a full apartment, probably comparable to a large (by Japan standards), open-concept 1LDK. It was extremely comfortable, the Japanese-style breakfast buffet was excellent (I did not try the dinner though), and the family bath and outdoor bath facilities were both high quality. So this place is truly a steal. Would love to go more often if it were a bit more accessible.
Overall everything was okay. The location was perfect: close to the central station, close to the bus station that will take you to the airport, close to the beach and a shopping mall. There are also many local restaurants as well as big restaurant chains around. The staff was nice, and some people even had very good English, which is not the case everywhere. The beds were comfortable and spacious, which is a plus. The onsen was a nice surprise, considering that it was a hostel.
