The property is stylish, comfortable and spacious. The large swimming pool is clean and sheltered with plenty of sunbeds. We love the farm animals and springbok wondering about. Delicious breakfast delivered to your room each morning. Amazing vegetable garden to wonder around. This is our 6th stay and we can’t wait to return.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this French Provençal-styled boutique hotel. We had two rooms, both of which were extremely comfortable. The beds and bed linen were superb and the staff very pleasant and professional. There was coffee and tea in the room as well as a snack, plus a minibar and luxury toiletries. The breakfast was delicious. We can highly recommend.

Our stay at The Marine Hermanus was truly exceptional. The hotel is elegant and beautifully located, offering stunning ocean views – we were even lucky enough to watch whales right from our room, which made the experience unforgettable. The room was spacious, spotless, and extremely comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway. The restaurant exceeded our expectations with delicious food and excellent presentation, while the staff were incredibly professional, welcoming, and attentive to every detail. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel genuinely cared for. Overall, everything was simply outstanding – from the breathtaking views and whale watching to the fine dining and world-class service. What an exceptional place to stay in Hermanus! The views from both the room and the main terrace are absolutely stunning, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome, and the check-in process was quick and effortless. The service is truly five-star—Jocelyn and Ansley go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels at home. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and their attention to detail is remarkable. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. We particularly appreciated the thoughtful extras, like the honesty bar both in the room and by the pool, as well as the availability of beach towels and foldable seats for outings. We also had the privilege of enjoying a fantastic Christmas dinner and lunch prepared by a talented local chef, which made our stay even more special. This property is an absolute gem and comes highly recommended. If you’re looking for a luxurious, welcoming, and unforgettable stay in Hermanus, this is the place to be!

The prep work done to accommodate ones fears and anxieties of the unknown expectations is phenomenal. You get all the necessary info upfront from WiFi password to lockbox code. Attentive to further assistance is displayed in a friendly and welcoming tone which is much appreciated. The kitchen was a full of bits and pieces to accommodate a huge variety of morning beverage needs. What a pleasure to stay there.

Let me start this review with a little spoiler: we had originally booked just one night, as a stopover on our road trip along the Garden Route. Well, barely 20 minutes after our arrival — after the tour of our room and the entire hotel, all the way to the terrace with that breathtaking view — we booked an extra night. It was love at first sight with Birkenhead House! What a hotel! How often do you still see that these days, by the way: people taking the time to show you not just your room, but the whole hotel? You can really feel how proud everyone here is — and rightly so! Having all meals and drinks included in the rate is also an incredible asset. And rest assured, no crowded buffets here, but friendly and discreet table service for your meals, as well as in the lounges or out on the terrace for a drink. Top-notch! Oh, and excellent beds too, featuring the best sleep aid in the world: the sound of the ocean! It’s actually that unique blend of the true boutique hotel atmosphere (a term that’s often overused but absolutely fitting here), the in-cre-di-ble location perched on the cliffs with (literally!) views of breaching whales behind the surfers, the intimacy, the delicious food & drinks, the stunning views from almost every spot, and — above all! — the wonderful staff, that make this hotel so exceptional. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay at Birkenhead House an absolute highlight of our trip! (...and thank God our room was available for that extra night!) :-)

The location is second to none, incredible ocean and mountain vistas almost wherever you look, but what really made this experience something special are the staff, they are attentive, engaging and friendly. What really struck me about the staff is how much they actually care about your experience, always asking “can I help you with x” or “we can do y if that’s better for you” etc without skipping a beat!

Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus enjoys the most prominent of positions in the heart of the old harbour area, flanked by the seaside and the bustling centre of this holiday town.
