The staff were friendly to a fault and even if they can't keep up with English, they'd do anything to help you. The place is old, that's what you get for looking for an onsen ryokan but it's well maintained and the cuisine offered was faultless.

Towels are available. The rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable with great amenities. We took our dog and there were bowls and bedding provided. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. The pool area is great with lots of seating and is open from 8am-8pm so you can enjoy morning and evening swims. We have stayed twice now and I would definitely recommend it.

It's just about within walking distance of the Yokoyama trail area if you're up for a bit of hiking.

Located 500 metres from Kintetsu Iseshi Train Station, Hoshidekan Ryokan (a member of the Japanese Inn Group) is a wooden building that was built in the 1920's and provides Japanese-style rooms with free WiFi, an LCD TV and traditional futon bedding. It has shared bath and a courtyard garden. The innkeepers are very enthusiastic and helpful, making this traditional Japanese inn, which has been passed down through 4 generations, the best place to stay for tourists from all over the world who visit Ise Jingu Shrine. In addition to being able to stay in a traditional building that is nearly 100 years old, listening to the Suikinkutsu in the garden was the biggest surprise, and I hope that the innkeepers will further maintain it so that it can be restored to its full functionality. The breakfast was heartfelt and the Japanese-style family bathroom was very cozy.
