SwitzerlandThis was a really nice hotel. Our room was large and comfortable. We used the indoor pool and hot tub which were nice though closes at 8pm. The restaurant was a bit overpriced and did not have many non-seafood options but the food was good and the atmosphere was elegant.

Extremely welcoming, service-minded staff (owners managing there own place); nice room with own balcony and sea and mountain view; decent room size; fabulous breakfast; quality answers to every question, advice from the tourist's perspective, sometimes driven by the business interests of the other services the place offers, but never inappropriate or even intruding; located right in the middle of where the action in more and more buzzling Lajes is.

The location facing the sea is wonderful and the house is perfect for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) with all amenities (equipped kitchen, washing machine).
There is a natural pool and supermarket just a walk away.
Jennifer and Beatriz are welcoming and helpful.
They picked us up at the airport to the house where our car was waiting and dropped us off at the ferry for our trip to Horta.
Would have loved staying a little longer.

Beautiful older verywell-kept house with highest comfort in the middle of a garden with lots of green and many flowers.
All was very well and of highest cleanliness.

We had a wonderful stay. The view is top, the bedrooms were great, the BBQ place was so cool and the host was very friendly and took care of everything. We could also leave our luggage in the apartment after we checked out. Definitely can recommend the apartment :)

Spacious apartment, very comfortable, well equipped.
We enjoyed a bath in the sea nearby.
We also enjoyed the kindness of the person who received us.

Confortable and well equipped. The view is great to San Jorge island.. It is not in the town but only 10 minutes by car. It is just perfect for rest if you want and be in the middle without difficulty.

I went there to scuba dive and Madelena is a perfect location between two excellent Dive Shops: CWAzores and Twin Peaks. I recommend O Cinco for food. Madalena is a perfect location to stage a vacation to have access to all the other towns, museums and activities.

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village.
Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season.
The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked.
Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club.
Close to hiking trails.

A nice little town with several good restaurants.
A nice little town with several good restaurants. We visited in September and some restaurants were closed so we needed to book some of the more popular ones. Whaling museum interesting to understand previous culture and history of the Azores. Supermarket and a few small shops. We used this as our base. The roads on the whole were good between Lajes and other places of interest. There is a little windmill which is very picturesque especially at night when it is lit up. Lovely sunsets.

Quiet place.
Quiet place. Only one restaurant open starting 7pm, 2 small shops and 1 bar. No no tourist attractions.
Perfect if you looking place for silence and rest and you are ready to drive to see something interesting or to go to restaurant.
Recommended is to have car -- buses are not real option.

The accommodation is few km's from Madelena and, to be flexible, you need a car to get there. Nice to walk over the lava boulders, enjoy the view at Failal and Sao Jorge. Go to the Terra Alto, nice quiet landscape.

Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing!
During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind.
Averall worth the experience tho. :)

If you can secure the separate apartment in this delightful complex of clever conversions then you'll get a better view than from the ground floor apartment we had ( which was still very good )
- worth asking the host about which properties are available for your stay and ascertaining the views

Lajes do Pico is a small and very cute town.
Lajes do Pico is a small and very cute town. It is clean and well maintained and has a few nice restaurants. We liked walking along the shore, eating at Ritinha restaurant, and eating Pastel de Nata at the Pastellaria.

Here you can experience the wilder remoter part of Pico Island. I walked along the marked trails about 10km to the Miradouro de Alto de Cedros, finding some woodland trails on the steep hillside. If I'd had another day I'd have taken the bus to Piedade and walked back along the coast.
Praia itself was quiet, with walks to the beach, a handy local shop and passing buses.

Madelena is a small town but with a few good restaurants and bathing places. It is right under Pico mountain. Access to Pico is very proximate There is an interesting coastal walk heading out of the town and great examples of the lava stone enclosures where the vines are grown. In the town there is a lovely wine bar serving wine tastings with a regional cheese platter.
