We loved North Island, particularly Rotorua with many options around our main interests: Maori Culture and Nature. There is So much to see. Visit and Dinner at Mitai Village, also our Visit to Te Puia Thermal Park, the Maori Arts & Crafts Institute and Kiwi Conservation Centre were Fantastic! Also the Buried Village (june 1886) and a number of Beautiful Waterfalls! Also worth paying a visit to Patrick's Pies, absolutelly great pies that received many prizes! Lovely little town with everything you might need shop wise. A hop, skip and a jump to Ohope beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Awateri trains an absolute must activity. Despite recent news coverage Ōpōtiki is an idyllic location. It has most amenities, the locals are great. The drive to Katikati was terribly slow because of the road works. But we were greeted by the restaurant staff whom made us feel calmer & welcome. The public bar did not disappoint either. Some very friendly fellas chatted to us immediately & recommended the restaurant for a meal. We loved all the paintings & photos all around the place. Such interesting history available for us to learn. We will definetly be back to stay a bit longer & ask for out book to be signed...The Great NZ Pub Crawl.
