Location is central. The room, facilities and breakfast were nice, and entire interior was decorated nicely, One of the few places that also serves a seal steak, which was really good.

I was greeted by a friendly polar bear in the lobby which was complete with a fireplace and chairs. The breakfast was an expansive treat. I got to try things I never would have before like Scandinavian caviar in a tube and brown cheese while enjoying amazing views. I was not expecting a heated floor in the bathroom. It was such a treat to step into a toasty environment to brush my teeth.

We loved this place! We were traveling with 6, and the two bedroom apartment was such a good option. The kitchen was wonderful in a place with pretty expensive restaurants but a great grocery store.

This is my 2nd time here! The staff were so helpful as always. Special thanks to Angie and Khristin who made my stay as comfortable as possible. They serve breakfast in the morning and help you with booking expeditions outside of Longyearbyen! There is a kitchen with enough fridges and if you don’t feel like cooking there’s coal miners just one minute away! If you don’t feel like walking to the grocery store they have some commodities to sell at the reception! The showers were sooooo big it’s actually nice to relax after a day out! There’s a small area with couches to enjoy some peace away from the dorm :) Important note: it is NEVER cold in the dorms despite the very negative temperatures outside! I always like coming back here it’s like having a family in Svalbard

The food on offer in restaurants is incredible. Try something new or stick to an old favourite like fish and chips. Everything is easy to get to all walking distance So many activities to try, Coal Mine 3, ATV tour outside the settlement of town, Northern most brewery visit and tasting. Experience the place for what it is, awesome, incredible and unique place on the planet. Try as much food as you can.

Barentsburg is a charming little town and somewhat off the tourist track: but it is worth spending at least two to three days because it has some very unique features. Hostel Pomor has excellent value for money: the bar/restaurant in Hotel barentsburg is excellent and cosy: the staff is very friendly and helpful

    Longyearbyen is unique.

Longyearbyen is unique. It is a small settlement up in the Arctic in a stark but beautiful landscape. It is very different to other places I have visited. We stayed for 4 nights and included a couple of trips on 2 of the 3 full days we spent there. It was a bonus for us that on the third day, 14th August 2025, it happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Norway's sovereignty over Svalbard. The town is very quiet and there are not many bars and restaurants but we were very happy to find the Karlsberger pub and it's sister restaurant opposite. These are 2 establishments which are popular with the local residents and are very lively and friendly with great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around Longyearbyen with museums and old mines to visit or you can walk down to the shore and see what wildlife turns up.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings. Everything was in walking distance from each other. Depending upon your interests there seemed to be many different kinds of activities to do. I did the Mine 3 Tour and the Svalbard Husky Dogs on Wheels activity. Both I thought were unique experiences and worthwhile. The impression that I got was that there is even a lot more to do during the winter months. Enjoyed eating nice meals at Mary-Ann’s Polarrig and Radisson Blue’s restaurants.
