Amsterdam is a friendly, vibrant city with so much history,...
Amsterdam is a friendly, vibrant city with so much history, entertainment and charm. It feels old and new at the same time. We love “slow travel” and while we saw some of the major sites (Anne Frank house, Van Gogh museum, Haarlem) we spent most days walking around the amazing canals and popping into sidewalk and canal-side cafes for drinks and bites and sometimes chatting with the friendly locals and visitors. We stayed at a fabulous property in Houthhaven called The July Boat & Co. and utilized their free bike rentals to get around the city. Amsterdam is the most bike friendly city I have ever seen! It was far easier to get around by bike than by car. The locals can spot the tourists from a mile away and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I know that Amsterdam has had a reputation as a place to go to the “coffee shops” for a particular type of tourist, and yes, there are coffee shops everywhere, but if that’s not your style, there are literally hundreds of other more stimulating things to do and enjoy in the city and within a 30 minutes or less by train. Seriously, eat all you want, because you will burn every calorie walking and biking in this beautiful and historic city. I cannot wait to return!Guest review byReneeUnited States - 8.0

A very good hotel, spacious rooms, a nice and large lobby and well connected to public transport and the airport. I wouldn't stay here in summer though, the windows open a crack and there is very little ventilation.Guest review byRyan AlbuquerqueIndia - 8.0

The Shiphol Airport is our favourite airport to enter and leave Europe. The Shiphol Plaza inside the airport gives you the option to eat for the first - or the last time - depends if you're coming or going - a delicious bite of European food. You may also just land with a carry-on and start shopping for clothes there. As Shiphol offers free WiFi you're able to navigate around even if your cell phone plan is not covering Europe. The main hall is also the entrance to the train station where you can start with a train (don't forget to buy a ticket at one of the many ticket machines, or pre-book online) to Amsterdam Centraal Station in the middle of Amsterdam.Guest review byVeronikaCanada - 8.0

We did not visit Badhoevedorp except to sleep and eat a few meals in the apartment. We liked being able to quickly travel to the airport and from there we could catch a train or bus to ANYWHERE. We are an older couple and this apartment hotel worked very well for us.Guest review byWeaverUnited States - 10.0
A lovely town on the Dutch coast.
A lovely town on the Dutch coast. Great for the beach, the dunes and access to Haarlem, Amsterdam and beyond, with regular buses and trains to both Lots of lovely places to eat (and what I believe to be the best chips in the world, at Fritures D’anvers) Wonderful ice cream at San Remo Cafe Mio Great for tapas Can’t comment much on the beach bars as we’ve not really used them A nice little selection of shops, you can get pretty much everything you need for your stay, right on the doorstep. 3 supermarkets all within a few mins’ walk of each other, plus lots of lovely smaller shops for groceries tooGuest review byLornaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Reasonable cost for parking (anywhere in Europe frankly) is my motivation to look outside of centre of city areas and then use local transport or walk. Parking costs at hotels in our budget in Amsterdam city were very high - secure convenient Q-park station in Amsterveen was E18 per day compared to E40-50 a day at hotels closer to the centre.Guest review bySusanAustralia - 10.0
Haarlem is a city with a great history and so lots of places...
Haarlem is a city with a great history and so lots of places to visit to learn of the Dutch days of the past. Being not far from Amsterdam is easy to access. It has plenty of varied places to eat to suit most peoples culinary favourites. City is easy to navigate, but if you are not used to the extensive use of bicycles in the Netherlands take caution when moving around the streets! The two museums, Jan Teyler (oldest museum in Netherlands) and Frans Hals are kept in good condition well worth taking time to visit providing tourist information in English. Both have websites which give details of special events.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Zaandam is a little away from the center of Amsterdam but...
Zaandam is a little away from the center of Amsterdam but there is a train station within walking distance, though no subway system out there. There is a pedestrian shopping area with eateries and grocery stores, etc. It is a quieter area to stay than the main city center. Train fares are a bit more expensive than other EU countries but are regular and on time. Most of the eateries in this area were Turkish and similar, and delicious.Guest review byLexciaAustralia - 10.0

Its a lively town with lots of places to eat drink and shop. Lots of lovely canal walks and a nice local park with a peeing polar bear. Whats not to like. Theres also cycle rides to windmills and a lovely beach. So plenty to see & do.Guest review byRamUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Many opportunities for eating out and close to the beach and nature. Relatively far from the other cities but not as far as De Cocksdorp: Den Burg or De Waal would be a better option if you want to be in a more central area, but everything is relatively close so it does not matter too much.Guest review byAnonymous
