Right off the bat, the porters were incredibly friendly and efficient with our luggage. The check-in process was smooth and quick, although they didn't accept American Express. No biggie, though; I had other cards. The 3 Superior rooms we booked were super spacious, with all the listed amenities on booking.com. Happy with that! We also opted for rooms with breakfast included, served at the "Büfe" restaurant. The spread was packed with various delicious Sri Lankan dishes and didn't repeat over the days. One thing, though, the place had quite a few flies and some cats wandering around, which might bother some. For lunch and dinner, we decided to dine at Büfe as well, and we were pleasantly surprised by the affordability (keep in mind, I'm comparing it to Swiss prices!). For five adults, our total for one lunch and two dinner buffets came to around CHF 300. Great value! In-room dining service available 24/7 via phone was a plus. Orders were delivered from their Ice Restaurant, which you could also visit. There's a designated smoking area, and I noticed folks respected this, making it comfortable for everyone else. They also had a beautiful swimming pool and a separate kids' pool with a play area - a bonus for families like us. Kudos to the housekeeping, reception, and porter staff, who were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay! The beach, directly accessible from the hotel, was mostly clean, though a bit rocky, and had some glass pieces. Just be a bit cautious with kids. We both really loved how they had put a swing right in front of the beach which added to the lovely experience. The bartenders and dinner services were really great as well. Overall the entire experience was just lovely and I would without doubt recommend it to anyone! Being my last trip in Sri Lanka as well I would say it was the best vacation I have ever had so far. The Galle Fort in Galle is my absolute favorite place — it has a vibe of its own. It’s completely safe at any time of the day, even for solo travelers. There’s so much history within the Fort walls to learn about and beautiful architecture to explore. The hosts at the restaurants and hotels inside the Fort are amazing, and the service is truly of international standard. The view of the Indian Ocean from the Ramparts is simply breathtaking. There are plenty of restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines and dishes to try. Outside the Fort, I highly recommend visiting the beaches at Unawatuna, just a few kilometers from Galle City Centre. While you’re there, don’t miss the Japanese Peace Pagoda at Rumassala — you won’t regret it! Yaddehimulla Road in Unawatuna has everything from surf schools and restaurants to gem shops, gelato spots, international cuisines, and everything in between. For quick bites and essentials, SPAR Supermarket at Galle City Centre is your go-to place. we stayed here at the end of September so the sea was not as calm as it would normally be (or so the locals told us) but you could still go into the sea but maybe not for too long. We did not venture into Bentota. We are expats living in Colombo so no need to explore the city. The hotel was at the right spot for a 100% relaxing weekend away with no distractions. The ocean is not that swimmable as the sea was very rough and looked dangerous. The pool was a welcome alternative. We drove to Galle for the Saturday to watch the game between Springboks and Kiwis. Great beach, we felt like Robinson Crusoe on the beach, almost just the 2 of us. Visiting Mahdu Lake at 6 a.m. watching the sun goes up. A natural paradise with a lot of birds and other animals. My favourite place was the turtle hatchery. Most meals were eaten at the Hotel. Very easy to get around. There is a tour agency opposite the hotel entrance, it cant get any better than that. It is easy to take tuk tuk or van taxis. Superior beach front view. Beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Well done to the management and staff for this top class facility.
