- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 729 reviewsSelected Iwaso for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience, and our expectations were exceeded. Our room was large, decorated in a traditional style, with a terrace with a view of the forest and brook. Everything was perfectly clean. Upon check-in, we have been provided with yukata which was very comfortable to wear. Both dinner and breakfast were of a traditional Japanese style and were absolutely delicious (before our arrival, Iwaso reached out to us with a query as to our dietary requirements and vegetarian options). We slept on futons on the tatami-matted floor which was very comfortable. Onsen was delightful, especially the outside one when one can look at the forest and listen to the nearby brook and crickets. Staff was very friendly, helpful and responsive. Iwaso is located conveniently for exploring Miyajima, a couple of minutes of walk from the ferry. Iwaso also operates a shuttle to the ferry which you are offered to use before checkin or upon checkout.Guest review byIvoCzech Republic
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 2,243 reviewsAmazing experience in a traditional style with a modern comfort. The hotel is located in a quiet place ~20 mins walk from the ferry port. It may sound far but the hotel provides the shuttle bus as often as you need. We were prepared for the ryokan rules about the shoes, so it wasn’t a surprise for us. The traditional room is very beautiful, clean, looks better in real life than on the pictures. Nice view from the window, I even saw an eagle on the tree. The hotel staff is extremely polite and helpful. Usually the staff set up the bed after the dinner but they set it up for me when I asked for a day nap. The dinner and breakfast servings is extraordinarily. Nice choice of exclusive souvenirs, especially loved the Momiji manju cookies, the ones from the hotel are MUCH better than the ones from the shopping street. In general, I highly recommend to stay here at least for 1-2 night for better exploration of Miyajima without rush.Guest review byNataliaRussia
- From US$614.26 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 342 reviewsOh, Iroha…. Where do I begin? We were greeted by the friendliest and kindest front desk staff, both of the ladies were extremely welcoming and helpful. They asked about our dinner plans and book us a table at a wonderful place. As this was the first place in Japan with Onsen that we stayed at we were explained how to prepare and what are the rules. We went there in the late evening, it was empty and from the outside bath you could enjoy the amazing views of Itsikushima Shrine, just magical! Also we were given a free upgrade to queen suite which we did not expect at all and it was incredible. I could not recommend enough this place and staying at Miyajima Island over night in general. You can’t fully experience the unique charm and beauty of this place by coming just for few hours. Come for a night or two and stay at Iroha, I can guarantee it will be a highlight of your Japan trip! Thank you for having us!Guest review byMałgorzataPoland

Outside the main shopping area but still within easy walking (or shuttle) distance from the ferry. The main reasson to visit was the Itsukushima Shrine but there was plenty of other shrines and temples to visit. The ropeway to Mt, Misen was great. The hike down not so much (not a trail, mainly steps - hard on the knees.Guest review byDeanUnited States - 10.0

Miyajima was great for walking around and doing the ropeway to the top. A lot of little eateries and street food- good if you like seafood. Scenic with the giant Tori gate and shrines, woods, deer walking around. Miyajima was one of my favorite spots on our trip to Japan.Guest review byMarciaUnited States - 10.0

It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come over by ferry for the day however we hired bikes and managed to stay clear of the crowds for the most part. The Island becomes very quite in the evening which is perfect, I would advise that you book a restaurant as lots of the island closes around 5-6pm so anything that is open later gets booked up. We were very lucky to just get the last free table on two occasions. Also the deer wandering around especially in the dusk and evening before al the ferries drop off are enchanting, however they are not like the deer in Nara park and there are lots of signs that remind people not to feed or bother the deer, not everyone follows these rules which is disappointing.Guest review byDonnaUnited Kingdom
