The breakfast was excellent, and being able to go out and eat outdoors was lovely. The ceilings were high and beautifully painted in the common area. Best of all was the woman who greeted us when we arrived and gave us her lovely smile every morning afterward. She was amazingly helpful!

Camara Suites is a beautifully situated, beautifully designed boutique hotel in the main town of Andros, Greece. It's located at the far end of town, down the marble streets lined with Venetian buildings, close to the museums, restaurants, outdoor cinemas, but away from the hustle bustle. In the hotel, I am familiar with only the 2 top rooms which have exceptional views overlooking a beach and the rocks from which you can dive or lounge about on. Our room was enormous with a kitchenette, sitting area, and a beautiful roof-top terrace where the most delightful breakfast was served: homemade breads, jams, cheeses, fresh-squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, meat if you prefer--all brought up to the room on a huge tray nearly as big as the lovely hotel manager, Ina. Ina is superb hostess, a vivacious, charming, energetic, and knowledgeable young woman so eager to make her guests feel at home. Well, perhaps better than at home as vacations should be at least for a time. The other room where my sister stayed has windows on two sides with a stunning view of the sea as if you're on a boat. Ina gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and beaches. We brought a detailed map that detailed the many hiking trails not too far by car from the hotel. I've traveled to Greece many many times and have stayed in an array of hotels, and truly, this (along with the Perianth in Athens) is my favorite hotel.

Hotel is located in a remote place, but just in front of Agios Petros beach. Golden beach is also just on the left from Agios Petros. The bulding is the perfect image of a traditional Greek House, the room was well decorated, we loved our terrace, the stunning sea view over the olive grove just in front of the terrace. My higlights of the stay are: hundred years old olives trees, narrow wild path through bushes heading you on the beach, nice smiling host, cicadas chirp..

FAQs about hotels in Andros

A Perfect Combination of Culture and Fun

A favoured weekend destination, the island of Andros is only an hour and a half away from Athens. Named after Andros, a hero descending from the line of God Apollo, this beautiful island features traditional villages, golden beaches, high mountains, small rivers and green valleys.

Featuring great nautical tradition and home to famous Greek sailors, Andros is not similar with any other island in the Cyclades. This small paradise is a great cultural destination thanks to its many museums and their unique collections of paintings, sculptures and archaeological exhibits.

The lovely Chora is the capital of Andros and one of the most popular villages of the island. Wander around the narrow alleys, admire the Neoclassical and Venetian-style houses, and admire the beautiful stone bridge.

Rich in history, the island has several towers including the tower of Ayios Petros and Fryktoria. Built by Venetians, the Pano Kastro was the largest city in Andros during the Middle Ages.

Built over a gorgeous natural harbour, the resort of Batsi has a sandy beach, shallow waters and nice taverns serving local specialties. Booking.com has a great selection of hotels, apartments and guest houses in the magnificent Batsi.

We lived near Batsi for 31 years.

We lived near Batsi for 31 years. It is a lovely little village with some very good tavernas and cafes, although there are now far too many cocktail bars. Andros island is lovely with excellent beaches and hiking trails but avoid August when the island almost sinks under the weight of thousands of visitors, mainly from Athens. Generally speaking, the island has managed to remain unspoilt by excessive tourism. The local people are very friendly and welcoming.

We were there in May so not quite season. It’s very small but served as a good base to visit the island. Some good tavernas. Bit nothing else to do there. Not a beach nearby that is nice for swimming or tanning so would probably recommend Batsi over Gavrio.

This is an ideal place if you don't like to be in the capital city with a lot of noise and traffic. You are far enough from the street and have your own peace and quiet, and at the same time you are very close to the city where there is entertainment and an active nightlife. Everything you need is in the area, restaurants, shops, beaches etc

This is an amazing natural beach, some parts are sandy and others with small white pebbles. Not a lot of people around on the time of my visit (June). The surrounding landscape is beautiful. There is a small tavern above the beach.

Batsi is a lovely little town in Andros.

Batsi is a lovely little town in Andros. Beach was right across the road and one of our favorite places to have dinner was right downstairs called Mastello. There are 2 bakery shops and the bread smells amazing. There are lots of different restaurants, so you could try a different one every night. The Ktel bus service is pretty good and on time from Gavrio the port. You could visit Chora the capital of Andros, which is about 30mins by bus. It has lots of shops and tavern for coffee, pita yeeros and of course some greek ouzo with ice.

    Not a hospitable island!

Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.

This destination is delightful, offering a wide array of culinary options. The local cheeses are exceptional, and you'll discover restaurants that cater to both casual diners and those seeking a more upscale experience. The ambiance is tranquil, making it an ideal retreat. Renting a car is advisable to fully explore the island’s beauty. While September may be slightly cooler, it also offers a more serene atmosphere.

Agios Pertos is perfectly situated close to the main port but also in a quiet location. The local beach is lovely, sandy with clear waters. There is a local bakery but no mini-market. There are 3 local restaurants, a pizza place (run by a Canadian Greek) that makes amazing greek salads, a tasty souvlaki place and Giannoulis, the best fish taverna that we visited (of course it also serves meat and vegetarian dishes).
