FAQs about hotels in French Riviera
Sunshine, Stunning Scenery and Celebrities
The French Riviera (or Côte d'Azur) boasts mountain backdrops, beautiful beaches and palm-lined promenades. It’s a year-round favourite of artists and celebrities - maybe the reason why, of French Riviera hotels, 5-star properties are high in number.
Several are in exclusive Saint Tropez with its pristine beach and marina full of expensive yachts. Boats cross the bay’s turquoise waters to the Blue Flag beaches of Sainte Maxime, and Port Grimaud, overlooked by Grimaud castle.
Le Lavandou has a wonderful beach and marina, while Fréjus has a waterpark, and neighbouring Saint Raphaël’s promenade and coastline are dominated by the Esterel Massif. Famous for its glitzy film festival, Cannes spans a wide bay and has designer shops and grand villas. Protected by a sea wall to the east, Antibes has a Picasso museum in its castle.
Nice is the Riviera’s largest city and Nice Airport is France’s 3rd busiest. Known for the Promenade des Anglais and large squares, it houses most Cote d’Azur hotels on the beach on Booking.com. Next door Villefranche-sur-Mer has brightly coloured façades at the water’s edge and is separated by a promontory from dramatically located Beaulieu-sur-Mer.
The region’s most easterly town is Menton, at the foot of the Alps, while glamorous Monaco is home to an F1 Grand Prix, and a world-famous casino and royal family.

Nice is the perfect place to visit, loads to do, great transport facilities. From the old town to the modern shopping district, to the wonderful seafront. The port offers boat trips and the trams go right down into the harbour area. The beautifully kept parks provide seating and children’s facilities. All the people we have met over the years we have been visiting have been helpful, and welcoming. So many restaurants there is something for everyone.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Have been there on business for 40 years.
Have been there on business for 40 years. Lovely place and the people, shops, restaurants all great. I like taking a break and hitting the lovely little beach just west of the marina in the old town for a quick swim. Easy, safe and lovely water.Guest review byTonyCanada - 10.0
Menton was charming - lots of history, quaint.
Menton was charming - lots of history, quaint. Small village feel but quite big, interesting and very beautiful. Glamorous but low key and without an overly ‘touristy’ feel. Great restaurants, nice also with the Italian feel. Prices reasonable, great markets and plenty to do. We stayed in such a great location within Menton too.Guest review byAlisonAustralia - 10.0

Antibes is a beautiful place to visit one of this biggest Marina I've ever seen with some of the most fantastic super yachts you will get to see anywhere, the coastal views are amazing with a great walk alomg the coastline. I would more than recommend this lovely place to visit.Guest review byJaneUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It was crowded.
It was crowded. It was market day and there was a Porsche event with about 800 cars m/l. The town knows how to handle a large event. We got lost but John rescued us. The police are not very helpful or friendly.Guest review byJoelUnited States - 8.0

Beausoleil is within walking distance of the centre of Monaco and much more affordable than Monaco accommodation. There is a hop on, hop off bus but most things are within walking distance if you are of a reasonable fitness and you get a better feel of the place too. Food can be relatively inexpensive, so you don't have to spend a fortune. Great place to stay for a couple of days and see all the sights.Guest review byjayneUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Enjoyed swimming, walking along the sea front and the ports and having coffee overlooking the sea front. Didn’t really see the uphill historic part, which I regret. The Tourist office at Saint Raphael was helpful as I needed a bus timetable. I’d say you need to be reasonably fit ( or have a car) to stay in the area I was in as in fact buses were few and far between so I did a lot of walking. I was on an Interrail pass so also enjoyed a little side trip out to Nice, which has good and frequent rail links with Saint Raphael.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 6.0

It was like being on a film set with millions of extras swanning around. We liked the hop-on hop-off bus tour. We ate in an Italian restaurant because our hotel, The Ambassador’s restaurant closes on Sunday evenings so be warned. Driving around the city not to be recommended because of all the tunnels. Great for luxury boat and car spotting. Full of entitled people.Guest review byMarionUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We like to fly into Nice and head to Saint Raphael as it’s a large coastal town with a harbour but smaller than Nice and beautiful promenade and many restaurants . I can swim in the sea everyday and grab the sun . It’s a lovely town . Very easy to grab a bus for day trips to other places or a train. We love heading to St Tropez for a day trip . A lovely bus trip . Cheap and great views of the coastline . Also Agay is beautiful resort . You could do Cannes . I’m not sure as regards nightlife as we are are here to relax . There is a harbour and yachts aplenty . So there are options to indulge in sea/ water activities . There is a Monoprix supermarket on same street as large church and few minutes into front of train station . Various Pharmacies . (Important to note that as of this year you cannot purchase strong painkillers from a pharmacy in France . It’s by presciption only . So if you need or require some ensure you take them with you .) .great boulangeries and cheesemongers . There’s also a fruit , veg , Fish market worth a visit . Saint Raphael is all walkable and I spotted many visitors who were wheelchair users . So access appears to be good here . We usually return to Nice for 2or 3 days for more of a city vibe .Guest review byarthurUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It's simply wonderful.
It's simply wonderful. The town is just the right size, not too big yet not too small. All the facilities are within walking distance. There are lots of bars, reataurants and shops, including supermarkets. The beach is great, too. It's not overcrowded. The prices in some eatieries might seem too high, but it's possible to find some affordable places.Guest review byZygmuntPoland
