Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a very pleasant little town on the South-west coast of France. Its beach is nicely sheltered from the wild Bay of Biscay, making it safe and attractive. We stayed in a central hotel with easy access to some lovely bars and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. It's an easy drive into the countryside; we climbed a mountain called Larrun, part of the Pyrenees, then easily back to St Jean de Luz for a swim and out for dinner! Lovely, long beach.
Lovely, long beach. Quieter than St Jean de Luz, but still with a good choice of small restaurants, often specialising in fish/seafood. Good public transport links, not expensive, to be able to visit other nearby villages and towns of the Basque Country Lovely walk up over the headland, or instead -a little stroll along the promenade. Visited Hondaribbia in Spain by a very short boat trip that leaves from Hendaye port. Beautiful little village-nice pintxos in the restaurants ! And good view from up by the castle. If you like vibrant environment (not a touristic hell vibrancy) Ciboure is the right choice. It is a charming place with beautiful beaches, stunning views of the Pyrenees, and vibrant Basque culture. It is a true Paradise for runners and those who likes long promenades. Fort de Socoa and area around is beautiful in any time of the day and you can find many outstanding restaurants there with affordable prices. You can reach St Jean de Luz by foot in 20 mins from Fort Socoa, and in 10 min from Ciboure Eglise (which is worth to visit!!!). and of course you can explore the nearby beautiful villages!Guest review byNataliaFrance - 10
