It's a mix of old & new & has it's own charm.
It's a mix of old & new & has it's own charm. A little on the touristy side. We stayed for three weeks but Cartagena could be seen comfortably in five to seven days. We didn't go to any of the islands or do any excursions. The humidity is very high. Dress appropriately. The weather changes rapidly, carry an umbrella. The vendors are everywhere & can be annoying at times, but people need to do what they need to do. Traffic is a problem at peak times. The people are so nice & always willing to help or answer questions. We always felt very safe. Next time we will venture to some of the more remote areas outside of the city.Guest review byZ - 10

We loved the Presidential suite we did not have to leave the room only if we chose to. We had 24 hr butler service and great drinks throughout the night. We were able to get food delivered as well....we had all inclusive. We had bath robes and shoes which were a bonus and a Haven rivera bag as a souvenirGuest review byAnonymous - 2.0

I am a travel agent and I would not recommend anyone to stay here , they are a scammer and their , they want you to pay deposit plus for electricity which is 700 pesos which they did not put in there description or policy I had to leave my passport because I told them I am not paying it. Then the room they sent me was dirty, the bathroom was very bad pipes rusted and mold filthy. The water was no good it was salt. Then electricy went away. I had a very bad experience. Do not go there and they want you to pay deposit and they don't refund. If you book it for 3 days and then you don't change your mind they don't want to refund back the cash. They are theif. Stay away from this placeGuest review byNatassiaJamaica - 6.0

The thing is that the historic centre of Santa Marta is noisy. But it is the starting point for Tayrona and Minca, as well a playa blanca (with the great Canopy). You could stay at Rodadero, but that did not look very nice either.Guest review byVerena KövAustria - 8.0

The main Playa del Carmen beaches ( Mamitas Beach, Pelicanos Beach and the one next to the Ferries are very very narrow as the sea is rapidly eroding them; thus there is very little space to sit and wherever you are, you will have locals playing loud music on their portable music players. A really beautiful wide beach with a jungle backdrop is the Coco beach which is about 2 miles long and easily accessible. The other very good beach is Playacar beach which is also long and wide but has hotels between the palms, the whole way along.Guest review byrobertUnited Kingdom - 10

I spent one day with a group tour around the city: caves, panoramic tour by bus, historical part and I loved it! I stayed in a lively area where on Sunday families were playing sports, listening to music, eating out and I loved it, The food is very affordable. Finally, I went by myself to the museums in the historical part again: Catedral la Primada, Ambar museum, Larimar museum. I ate at a restaurant next to the Last Columbus's house and the food was amazing.Guest review byMarinaPGuatemala - 10

What I really liked about Barranquilla was that I thought it was Colombias best kept secret. It’s developing a lot more and has a lot of partying which I’m not into. I really liked the boardwalk where the Shakira and Sofia Vergara statues are. The people seem very friendly. The Buenavista mall was fun and a must. Overall great city and great people. Definitely worth the visit.Guest review byPatrickUnited States - 10

You should accept the typically Carribean circumstances ( reggea, little shabby, motorbikes) and you will have a lovely stay there. Everything is within walking distance but you can rent a buggy or bike to go around. There are colourful festivals like the Emancipation Day or the August 7 Carneval in San Luis. Do not miss the Aquarium and Johnny Cay! The best beaches are in San Luis.Guest review byErikaHungary - 8.0

Monsoon season, meant a lot of sea weed on beaches although locals trying to keep of top of its removal and in the sea , stopping swimming, mosquitoes due to damp humid weather . Taxi is very expensive as no other public transport,so they can charge what they want , hire of scooters is cheaper.Guest review byCharmainUnited Kingdom - 10
