The hotel has 5 hot-spring baths and serves local specialities for dinner. A wonderfully authentic traditional ryokan with spacious, comfortable rooms and beautiful river views. The public onsen was perfect—hot, clean, and peaceful with great natural scenery. Dinner was a delightful kaiseki experience with impressive presentation and thoughtful local dishes. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making the stay truly special. The setting with a charming rope suspension bridge adds to the unique atmosphere. A perfect getaway for onsen lovers seeking relaxation with excellent hospitality. Highly recommended. This peaceful, elegant place offers an unforgettable Japanese experience

The customer service was beyond excellent, the staff were very attentive and caring and accommodating. The hotel is beautifully and thoughtfully designed. the room was spacious, comfortable, gorgeous with massive picture windows. It's out in nature, no wires or buildings or people in sight. The included breakfast, which they adapted to be vegetarian for me, was one of the best and healthiest meals we had in all of our Japan travels.

Set in Nakagawa and only 10 km from Nakagawa Aquatic Park, Iizukatei offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. It is located 18 km from Ungan-ji Temple and provides full-day security. This 5-star ryokan offers private entrance. Easily the best part of my trip was staying here. I felt like a mixture of an esteemed guest, friend and family while staying here. The hospitality and meticulous care of the staff, especially Maylene, the friendliness of the locals and the beauty of the hotel grounds and overall surrounding nature made for the perfect stay. My hotel room was like an apartment to myself and it was so clean, the beds were the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on, the floor has a heat option, there’s a mini kitchen (I didn’t get to cook anything though) and the shower was great and also has a tub for you to soak in too! They also give guests a yukata to wear! Every day I got a platter of fresh seasonal fruits and veggies sourced locally. They gave an option of a western or Japanese breakfast (I opted for the Japanese) and even how they served it and displayed it to you was meticulous. Food was delicious! They gave an option for a half day or a full day trip where staff can drive you around to different sites and experiences around the area. They have great recommendations (also make sure to read the material they provided you so you get a better idea on what you’d like to do). I did a soba making class and had a private onsen experience. The prices were fair for all the things I asked to do and see during my half day. They would also personally take me to restaurants and speak with them to help with the language barrier. It’s the countryside so the immediate town around was small but there’s still some things to sight see and eat; I spent one of my days just walking around and exploring town. I had food poisoning before coming here and I was literally nursed back to health here with the fresh food and the staff checking in on me all the time. If you’re hesitating, I’d say book this place for 1-3 nights at least. It’s a little far out but when are you ever going to stay in a historical 200 year old renovated complex in the beautiful countryside of Japan? You won’t regret it.

Set 27 km from Shirakawa Station, Nasu Onsen Sanraku offers 5-star accommodation in Nasu and has an open-air bath, free bikes and a garden. This ryokan features free private parking and a lift. The accommodation offers a hot spring bath, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. Fantastic experience I believe we were the only westerners there during our 2 night stay The service from the staff was the best we have ever experienced Everyone from the porter, front desk, kitchen and wait staff were fantastic The level of English was quite basic but this did not hinder our enjoyment at all The onsens really are as big and beautiful as the pictures suggest Westerners should not be afraid of the experience, they have a helpful guide on their website. Please be aware that guests with tattoos are not allowed in the public onsens (this applies for the majority of onsens but some places do cater for tattooed guests) The full Ryokan meal service was incredible So many flavours with the highest quality seasonal ingredients, all presented beautifully on incredible crockery We stayed in a Japanese style room in the east building which allowed us to enjoy a private room experience. Please check with the hotel if they will be able to accommodate this for you, it is worth it in my opinion A special thank you to the kitchen staff who were so delightful We had a travel mishap and phoned ahead to let them know we would be 30 minutes late (we were already booked on the last available time slot). They were very kind in accommodating us and did not rush us through our meal Excellent value for money, we were so satisfied with the experience Fantastic stay, we were sad to leave and we would love to return on our next trip to Japan

Dinner was allocated at a private room which was nice n quiet. The lady manager came to say thank you in Japanese which we had difficulty to understand but it was a very warm gesture and made us feel happy. Booking.com should always offer plan with dinner n breakfast for onsen hotel in Japan. Having Japanese kaiseki dinner set at Nanae was an unforgettable experience. Arigato Nanae and specially to Sato san who help us to carry our luggage from a distance away at hotel entrance.

Everything is nice there especially the staffs who are really friendly and always willing for helping. They will pay attention to your every living habit and always give you the best service. The view is also excellent, feeling so good surrounded by the nature. I even met a wild monkey during my morning bath.
