Everything, from the food to the room. I booked the smallest room which I did not know that there is a private onsen. My meals were in a separated room which I feel is better than having inside my own room. This hotel is worth staying for the experience. There are guests around but I was surprised to not hear any noises. I felt like I was being served as a royalty. The sake that I had, does not have any alcohol smell, it tasted so good and it had a cherry taste to it. I enjoyed the private outdoor onsen and I regretted not trying the public onsen. Also, breakfast usually starts at 730am but I had a train to catch, the hotel offered to serve breakfast at 7am. I was already awake at 5am to enjoy the onsen for the last time. My dinner was at 6pm which was the earliest timing.

We had an excellent stay, food and presentations were exquisite. We admired the thought that went into presenting food in dishes that are compatible with the “mood” of the food. Only 5 minutes walk to the lift. Staff were professional, rooms were comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay.

Definitely our best stay during our trip to Japan. Everything about this place is just exceptional. The room, the food, the onsen, the service, everything was amazing. We had a really memorable stay and felt very sad when we had to leave :( Our favorite part was when the staff explained all the food in front of us during breakfast and dinner, like storytelling. If you're looking for an ultimate ryokan experience, then this is it. We will be back for sure.

I would absolutely come back and stay here again. The rooms were so big which was a great change from all the other rooms we've had. The facilities were modern and comfortable and the staff really couldn't do more for you. The on-site onsen was also really great, and I can also recommend to get a massage! Great hotel overall

The Deluxe king room is excellent as it comes with a massage chair which is handy at the end of the day. It is highly accessible as it is close to Yamagata station.
