A garden is featured. Tongariro Crossing Lodge was a great place to stay for our family (parents, 2 adult daughters). Our main purpose was to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. However, after consulting with Louis (owner) and looking at the predicted cloud cover, we opted to delay the hike an extra day Louis kindly suggested alternative shorter hikes/activities near by, which were very enjoyable. Louis had also reserved spots for us on the shuttle (to/from hike) but upon our arrival and discussion, we decided to drive ourselves to the carpark which ended up being a good idea since the day we hiked was extremely cloudy, not clearing up until about 1pm. Driving ourselves allowed us to be flexible and enjoy the stunning views for another hour instead of rushing back to make the 5:30pm shuttle. In addition to the room (ours was newly renovated), you could also pay for a continental breakfast and sack lunch which Louis brought to our room the night before the hike. Very convenient and yummy!! Lodge was also within walking distance of restaurants (two that we ate at had great views of mountains, sunset) and small store. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - perfect for us :). Louis was also very responsive prior to our trip, answering my many questions.

The lodge offers a barbecue. I wished, we could have stayed longer for relaxing and exploring this rural area. Sue and David are wonderful attentive and communicative hosts speaking reliable German and French. They made their house our home for 1 night. An amazing breakfast was served in the morning. Should we ever be crazy enough to fly more than 20.000 km to get here we definetely will check in again at the Mairenui Rural Retreat. Thanks you very much. Gregor and Johanna

Our hosts Bernie and Marie did an excellent job at making us feel welcome to their home. It’s in a perfect position close to restaurants and hikes and the base of the ski fields. Bernie made us a delicious hot breakfast before we left.

At the lodge guests are welcome to take advantage of a hot tub. We were there for ski trip. I loved Sandy's service by giving us all the info about the mountain and how to be prepared with passes and mapping it out for us to make sure we get the best experience which I appreciated soo much! The place itself was soo clean and felt like home. Beautiful lounge area and clean kitchen and nice open outdoor area to enjoy food with the best view in the area! Highly recommend and I'll definitely be staying here on my next trip :)

Plateau Lodge is located 15 minutes’ drive from UNESCO World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park, where guests can enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling activities. A daily, shuttle service is available hourly from 6:00 until 9:00 to the Tongariro Crossing & National park. Free parking is available. Just stayed for one night ahead of doing the Tongariro crossing but everything was great. Easy check in out of hours, spacious apartment which was well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again :)
