Wilderness is a charming holiday village. With its long golden beaches, extensive waterways and lush indigenous forest, it is a nature lover’s paradise. Wilderness lies 15 km east of George, nestled between die Outeniqua Mountains and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and is an ideal base from which to explore the world-famous Garden Route. History As far back as the late 1800s the reputation of Wilderness was established as an ideal destination for seaside holidays. A seaside boarding house was started in an old homestead − and so began the tradition of hospitality which has made this small resort town world famous. Climate The winter climate is splendid with sunny days and temperatures that rarely drop below 8°C. The annual rainfall averages around 700 mm, spread all year round, meaning that the winters are as warm and sunny as the summertime. The balmy weather creates an outdoor style of living that draws locals and visitors alike to the long stretches of sandy white beaches throughout the year.
