Property information
Perfectly positioned to make the most of these enviable views is an infinity-edged, long and almost teardrop-shaped, private swimming pool. Whether swimming in the water or relaxing on the adjacent sun terrace, the range of differing perspectives over land, sea and mountain will inevitably draw the eye.
Iliada’s bright, attractive interior is decorated in muted tones combined with splashes of vibrant colour to create a pleasingly contemporary style, very much in keeping with the property’s clean lines and modern architecture. Open plan and spacious, the dining and living areas each have a set of French doors to the garden, a fully equipped kitchen sits alongside plus there is a further kitchenette handily positioned to compliment the barbecue. A twin bedroom with a terrace and separate shower room complete facilities on this floor.
Three further bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en suite) are found on the first floor, where the various windows and terraces offer yet more picture-perfect spots from which to admire the remarkable panoramas.
Neighbourhood information
Romantically named after the Greek for ‘ray of light’ Iliada enjoys quite spectacular views of both coast and country. To the rear the majestic Cretan mountains provide the most appealing of backdrops; to the front the entire Gulf of Chania fills your vision, a vast swathe of coastline stretching from the Akrotiri Peninsula and Chania Town on the right, across to the Rodopos Peninsula on the far left, passing the little island of Agioi Theodoroi on the way through. As they have done for generations, thyme-covered hills and seas of silvery-grey olive groves still dominate vast tracts of the surrounding, sparsely inhabited countryside.
Occupying a gently elevated position between the rivers of Tavronitis and Platanias, nearby Maleme (1.7km) is a laidback spot, slowly growing in popularity as visitors discover its many attractions which include good amenities and a long sandy beach edged by low dunes, tall bamboo trees and local tavernas. Snorkelling, fishing and horse riding are a few of the pastimes available plus several popular walking and biking trails can also be found within easy distance.
