The Mawson Family
Welcome to Highside Farm, a luxurious farming retreat nestled in the heart of the Lake District. Steeped in history since 1668, Highside Farm is a cherished Grade II listed gem. Enjoy a unique glamping experience in our cosy, bespoke huts, perfectly positioned to offer breathtaking panoramic views across Bassenthwaite Lake. Our luxurious huts popped up in 2020, offering you an ideal hideaway to kick back after a day of Lakes adventures. They’re like your own snug little spot, where you can unwind and recharge after a bustling day in the Lakes. Due to the elevated position of the farm, the panoramic views are in abundance with Bassenthwaite Lake to the front, Ullock Pike and Skiddaw to the rear. In keeping with the location and the great Lake District outdoors, the huts are named after the fells in which they fall in front of. Each hut is equipped with the high-end amenities, ensuring the utmost comfort and sophistication. Enjoy a seamless blend of indoor luxury and outdoor adventure, with the chance to connect with nature and gaze at the starry night skies. Situated in the outstanding World Heritage English Lake District between the renowned market town of Keswick and Cockermouth, the picturesque surroundings are ever-changing with the seasons, making this a perfect retreat for walking, touring or just simply relaxing.
Home to the Mawson family since 1963, Highside Farm is a traditional working sheep and beef farm, spanning 300 acres from the fells of Ullock Pike to the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. Originally a sheep farm, we later brought in cattle, and in 2003 the farmhouse got a big makeover, turning it into a B&B and opening the doors to guests for the first time. Highside Farm is more than just a family home, it is a place we want others to experience and enjoy. Whether you are here for an adventure, a peaceful escape, or a special celebration, we hope you feel the same warmth and magic that we do. This farm has given us a lifetime of cherished memories, and we are excited to share that experience with you. There is nothing better than seeing guests settle in, whether it is unwinding by the fire pit with a glass of wine, exploring the surrounding fells. This farm has given us a lifetime of cherished memories, and we are excited to share that experience with you. We like to think of our farm as a warm, welcoming family hug. We look forward to welcoming you to Highside Farm and being part of your own special moments.
Whether you're here for walking, touring, pure leisure, or business, we've got you covered, leaving you yearning for more. It's no wonder that over half of our cherished guests keep coming back year after year. If you're into exploring on foot, numerous walks start right from the farmhouse door. For the more adventurous, Skiddaw, the most outstanding of the northern fells, awaits your climb. Beginners or those seeking a more leisurely pace can stroll down to Bassenthwaite Lake and enjoy the many lowland walks available. There's something for everyone right at your doorstep.
