A lovely old house looking over the sea. Our room was very clean and a lovely breakfast was served on our 2 mornings there. It's an ideal place to stay for visiting the historic recreation of Louisburg old town and fort.

The old house was so well maintained and a lot of care had been put into making the decor fit the age of the home.

Innkeeper: Parker Bagnell
Parker is proud that he grew up in this house and is now sharing this fine property with guests visiting Louisbourg from all over the world. This waterfront property, next to the working fishing wharves and boats gives you a true Maritime feel. The original house owner, Capt Thomas Townsend sailed his schooner the Florence Abbott to and from the Caribbean Islands around the turn of the century when sail was the main method of transportation . His vessel would be berthed at the wharf just below the house. Joseph "Dody" Bagnell, the innkeeper's father, was a lobster and crab fisherman for 50 years and raised his family of 5 in this house beginning in the late 1960's.
I am very happy to host visitors and show off what I think is the most impressive harbour and coastline in this province. Louisbourg is essentially a simple fishing town with Canada's most prestigious National Historic Site and Atlantic Canada's most rugged and storied coast. The air is fresh off the sea and the people are wonderfully friendly. Connecting travellers with all this is my work as well as my hobby and pleasure...honestly.
The area is an authentic working Nova Scotia fishing harbour as compared to a touristy version of one. During the summer months the lobster and crab fisheries are operational. The "neighbourhood" is a sheltered harbour with a 300-year old history of fishing. Our "front yard" is the Atlantic Ocean and the Louisbourg National Historic site including the Fortress of Louisbourg. We have, arguably, the most attractive lighthouse in Atlantic Canada on the site of the first light in Canada which was the second in all of North America (1734). It is a 2 mile walk from the Inn. Next door is the Louisbourg Playhouse where at 8p.m. nightly some of the best folk music on Cape Breton Island is performed. From the Inn you can walk to the fishing wharves and watch the catches being off-loaded, talk to fishermen about their activity or just take a couple of photo ops!
