They even sent a note ahead of our arrival with their contact number in case we needed help finding the place.

The latter is at the foot of a historic and important Buddhist shrine and resting place of Kato Kiyomasa, builder of the Kumamoto Castle, while the former are generations-old family of soba makers. While breakfast didn't come with soba, it was one of the best I've eaten in Japan. The space is comfortable, traditional and has everything you may need, including excellent views of the city.
