I read in comments that it was the best guesthouse/hostel travellers stayed whenever before. So, I can confirm this! It really is!

There are hiking trails nearby and would love to visit again and explore more of the area around the guesthouse.

Going back to Wagokoro at the end of a long day in busy Tokyo city was like coming home to family. We had lovely conversations and always felt taken care of - I even felt so comfortable practising my basic Japanese with our hosts as they are so nice to talk to us every day. The room was lovely with wooden interiors, and we really loved hanging out in the common room. The common room had an equipped kitchen, free tea and coffee, and cute tables to sit and have a snack or meal. There are also lots of good places to eat around the hotel, and the train station was just a 7-minute walk away. Wagokoro had a level of hospitality that we have never experienced before, it's definitely a place we would like to stay at again next time in Tokyo :)

I came during the winter not well prepared for the cold in the mountains which the staff noticed and the owner gave me a very warm coat.

At the time, I was able to talk and share a lot in the warm communal space at the guest house. I was also able to meet other guests while staying. This was a really unique experience.

Better than anyone I tried before in Japan!

His English is really good and his sense of humour even better. His knowledge of the area and itinerary suggestions worked very well for us. We’d highly recommend the local izakaya 800m from his place.
