A Very nice small city, lots to see and many good dining and shopping opportunities. We were lucky to be there during a festival, which provided non-stop entertainment for our two -day stay. Our favorite place in Portugal so far. (We are not big city people, found Lisboa and Porto vexing - crowds, noise, traffic). Barcelos manages to be interesting and charming without the negatives. The city is beautiful and with a lot of monuments and churches to visit. It also had some pretty interesting shops in a central shopping area and some interesting looking restaurants. From traditional to hipster food- you can find everything there. The day I visited, the city had a huge market in the center, street food and entertainment. There were some traditional music concerts, traditional dancing, flower and light decorations all over... Very pretty.
