Absolutely cosy wonderful place, worth doing the extra kms. Lovely road to get there. Didn't expect so much comfort in a place like this (slightly remote) with all the amenities you can desire. Welcoming and helpful guest. Excellent for a couple or with kids since there are friendly animals to "play" around with. Would go back without hesitation.

I loved the Victorian quarter and the Steam Punk museum. But my favorite was seeing the blue penguins arriving on the shore at the Penguin Sanctuary at the end of the wharf. Totally worth paying for premium seats.

We only stayed one night and did a whirwind tour. Steampunk to brewery to little blue penguins. Tees Street Cafe for breakfast and then we were off. I loved the quirkiness and historical charm and would like to go back. I think 2-3 nights would be more fun. Even 4 would be good. Everything close to each other though so still worth it for even 1 night. Magical!

the train, the old town, the seals the penguins.

the train, the old town, the seals the penguins. The Craftwork pub, the robot shop, the criterion, the kids playground, the farmers market...all doable in a weekend and all within easy walking distance. and a drive to Kakanui is worth it too

Not much to do in Oamaru, will recommend visiting the quaint...

Not much to do in Oamaru, will recommend visiting the quaint museums, Oamaru heritage museum (pay/donate as you wish) and steampunk museum (NZD$15/pax). both were interactive and we enjoyed it with the helpful stuff. the day was a cloudy and rainy so we opted out of visiting the penguins - they have a live youtube stream of the penguins coming home which we watch. We did visit the penguins tour during the day, which was open to public and saw some fur seals relaxing. To watch the penguins coming home, it's NZD$45 per pax, which we thought was a little expensive. + the weather being bad, we decided to watch them online instead.

we had a national bird show for 4 days to attend found some really nice eating places with great service the tearooms on the main street very very good there was alot of north island bird member there they agreed tearooms that carter for the bus serv ice greast place to relax with coffee and eats

We went for the penguins but could have spent another day...

We went for the penguins but could have spent another day wandering around the Victorian Precient, Steampunk HQ and lovely shops of Oamaru. Also nice that it is only 30 minutes away from Moeraki Boulders. Riverstone Castle and Kitchen make a great stop too on the way down from Christchurch.

Excellent hosts, Very clean and well-appointed. Great continental breakfast. Very comfortable bed. Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights. Would not hesitate to recommend staying at Century House. If staying in Oamaru would recommend a minimum of 2-3 nights to visit the penguin colony and the old Victorian precinct

Location was not too bad. The beach was very pretty. We decided to not eat here as the service was not good so we went to the Brewery Hotel and the meal there was great as was the service.
