Some of the nearby beaches (Tāwharanui here’s looking at you), you are best to plan to get there early - say by 9am on public holidays in super summery weather - for access and parking reasons (there is plenty of beach to go around!).. and take shade structures and sunscreen with you! Matakana Village Market - a foodies paradise, lots of gluten-intolerant options. Highly recommend the GF crepes! (Even for non-Coeliacs.) Sculptureum - great value for money, such an interesting unusual place to spend a couple of hours. Donkeys at Highfield Gardens Reserve - a must for any animal lover. Only carrots, apples or spinach may be fed, so go prepared. Take a drive to the local beaches.
