Everything was awesome. The team at Basecamp treated was so kindly we felt like at home after 1st moment. The chef turned me from a tost fan to a Eggs Benedict fan. I will miss every moment from the time we walked into the reception until our pick-up back to the airport. Thank you all for such a great experience.

A quiet place to relax and enjoy your stay. The standard room is big and comfortable, warm with heavy curtains to block the sunlight. The staff were very kind and helpful with whatever we needed. The breakfast had a large variety of goodies and the place itself has a stunning view and a cozy feeling. The Nansen restaurant inside the hotel serves delicious food.

    Longyearbyen is unique.

Longyearbyen is unique. It is a small settlement up in the Arctic in a stark but beautiful landscape. It is very different to other places I have visited. We stayed for 4 nights and included a couple of trips on 2 of the 3 full days we spent there. It was a bonus for us that on the third day, 14th August 2025, it happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Norway's sovereignty over Svalbard. The town is very quiet and there are not many bars and restaurants but we were very happy to find the Karlsberger pub and it's sister restaurant opposite. These are 2 establishments which are popular with the local residents and are very lively and friendly with great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around Longyearbyen with museums and old mines to visit or you can walk down to the shore and see what wildlife turns up.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings. Everything was in walking distance from each other. Depending upon your interests there seemed to be many different kinds of activities to do. I did the Mine 3 Tour and the Svalbard Husky Dogs on Wheels activity. Both I thought were unique experiences and worthwhile. The impression that I got was that there is even a lot more to do during the winter months. Enjoyed eating nice meals at Mary-Ann’s Polarrig and Radisson Blue’s restaurants.

Longyearbyen is unlike any other place I've been.

Longyearbyen is unlike any other place I've been. I went during polar night, and dark season is an interesting experience when neither the Sun or Moon ever rise. Make sure to visit the museum, the Nordover gallery, and the brewery, and stop for coffee in Café Huskies. The cold is surprisingly manageable as long as you wear the right clothing. Make sure you layer up properly, and bring a good pair of gloves and some warm boots – walking is the easiest way to get around.

Longyearbyen seems to be a magnet for humans who find adventure in loving other humans. Nobody is "From" Longyearbyen. But those who venture there become instant family. Not everyone should even consider visiting. Those who will already know who you are, as you read this. Longyearbyen is not for the faint of heart, nor the shallow of spirit. RD

For both the natural history as well as lesson on the current situation of how global warming is impacting our planet, this is a perfect town to come and visit. The scenery and the geographical isolation makes it incredibly educational and joy to experience, and the scientific value of this community, including the global seat fault just south of the airport, as another value to a trip here. We particularly enjoyed our hotel, and the friendliness and responsiveness of the staff. The people here are incredibly friendly.

Good option to stay in Longyear! The room and bathrooms were warm, clean and cosy. Very friendly staff - always smily and ready to help. Good soundproofing - you don’t hear neighbours. A little bit away from centre of the city, but it makes possible to see North Light near the hotel. You can buy beer and some snack on reception, so you don’t need to go to shop for it. 24-hours access to hot water, tee, coffee. You can stay in hotel and drink something hot even after checkout when you is waiting for bus to airport. We come here back again!

The room was really spacious and clean. All of the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Nice breakfast and many gluten free options as well so my partner could get a proper breakfast. The information centre is right across this hotel where you can get information about different tours, maps etc. The location of the hotel was easily accessible from the airport with the shuttle. And it was easy to go for short walks around town within the polar bear safe area.

The best accommodation in Longyearbyen imaginable! Not just a hotel but many other facilities including a huge "living room", game room, restaurant, etc. A complex of several buildings set aside from the city center yet very close to it (there is a bridge shortcut to the town). We stayed there during the polar night and we enjoyed the setting with Christmas trees in the yard. Very nice breakfasts and a superb restaurant.

Love this hotel! Very boutique with wonderful service. You would not expect to find a place like this in a small town like Longyearbyen. We have stayed here many times and each time it has met our expectations. Check out the wine cellar, WOW!

The location was fantastic because it was directly opposite the centre of the town. The Japanese restaurant at the hotel also had superb food. The rooms were basic but had comfortable beds and hot showers.
