one of the best accommodations I had on Borneo. Rooms were large, spacious and clean. Bed and breakfast were also fine. The highlight, however, was the friendliness of the hosts, especially the two sons. When the elephants were nearby, I was informed immediately and they went with me straight away. The boat tours (since I was there in December, these were even private tours) were very good and there was a lot of information about the animals. I can highly recommend this accommodation and the accommodation is much more personal than the resorts or large providers. I would come back immediately.

It was more than the property - it was the overall experience that was amazing! The conservation focussed owner and has family went above and beyond expectations to ensure everyone was happy! They even organised private transportation for us to get there from Sandakan (cheaper then grab) and then personally drove us to Lahad Duta and got us mini bus transport to Tawau. The tours were great and only included their guests. We got to see so much - including Elephants up close. We chose all meals included and the price was a third of the prices I’d seen advertised as package deals. Whatever you need - just ask them!

Great value for an accomodation in the middle of the jungle - spacious room, comfy beds, working shower, kettle in the room. It's right by the river and a nice cafe with very affordable prices. Cost-wise this is one of the best options to go on a river cruise - their guide Jeidi was amazing, he definitely know and cares a lot about the wildlife. I took two cruises with him and was able to see orangutan, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, rhinoceros hornbill and other birds. Highly recommend taking cruises at different times, since morning one is very calming and the weather is noticeably cooler.

We loved our stay at this lovely hotel ! First of all the location is great, with a cute garden and river, where you can spot owl and bats at night time if you are lucky. The bungalow are very big, with two double bed mostly, and very comfortable: it has fan plus ac! The bathroom is ok, come with soap and toilet paper, and they do their best to accommodate you even with the water shortage that can happen for external reasons. The main area has plenty of seating, information about wildlife and fans;) The food is super delicious, really, and more than enough ! As a vegetarian I was so happy the meal were so balanced with two vegetables, rice and protein at lunch and dinner:) Their river guide has a very good eye for animals spotting and will always go the extra mile to find, refind or spot the animal you'd like to see. We did all 9 river cruise in 3 days and saw everything we wanted and more ! Girls at reception are so sweet and helpful, very friendly, a pleasure to be hosted by them :) We highly recommend this place for a great adventure in the wild with all the comfort !

The accommodation was clean, the bed comfortable, the food delicious and the whole team that looked after us were nice, helpful and attentive. The internet is only in the dining room, but that didn't bother us. The hot water is running, and you can even see wild animals right from the accommodation. And thanks to Mika our guide and Ten Ten, the boat captain, we saw all of Borneo's big five 👍

Great location on the river and basic but comfortable rooms. The meals were good thanks to Yanti’s cooking. Yanti also helped to organise transport back to the airport.

This was a fantastic experience and stay - altogether. The attentiveness of Jason and the staff makes it feel like a 5 star hotel, whilst the location and rustic feel makes it feel like you are truly in the heart of the jungle. You fall asleep to a light breeze and the sounds of the jungle. My wife is pregnant and we were a bit worried about mosquito diseases - but Jason explained that the ridge at which the hotel is at has barely any mosquitoes because of the altitude. He also suggested a non deet mosquito spray that really works. We had 0 mosquito bites during our stay. I can’t get all the things into a review. But such a gem of a place. Thank all of you ❤️

A good area for spotting wildlife, but I would recommend...

A good area for spotting wildlife, but I would recommend staying in a smaller family-run accommodation as you get a better personal service and excellent local knowledge. Early morning and late afternoon and night boat trips offer great opportunities to see the wildlife. We enjoyed walking round the local village, but there are not many places to eat out. We had all our meals at the homestay.

Amazing time on the river! This is a great place to stay.

Amazing time on the river! This is a great place to stay. Make sure you visit the Saturday/ Sunday market for a glimpse of local life. We would advise joining as many cruises as possible during your stay, to spot as much wildlife as possible. It seems the tours are all the same just the accommodation varies, so don’t worry about being on a budget. We did a 3D2N tour at sakau backpackers (we believe cheapest on the river) and it was absolutely amazing, comfortable rooms, but the important part was the great river cruises and passionate guides who would do all they could to hunt to find as much wildlife as possible. Out of 4 months in Asia, our time in Sakau and Sepilok has been our favourite.
