Iten is often called the **“Home of Champions”** because of its high altitude – about **2,400 meters above sea level** – and fresh, clean air, which create perfect training conditions that have produced many of the world’s best long-distance runners. For visitors, this makes the town special not only as a training hub but also as a place where you can meet athletes from all over the world. Beyond running, Iten has a beautiful **natural setting**. Forest hikes take you through lush greenery, where you can spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and enjoy breathtaking views over the Rift Valley escarpment. The **Saturday market** is another highlight. It’s a colorful, vibrant place where locals gather to sell fresh produce, clothing, and handmade goods – a wonderful chance for visitors to experience everyday Kenyan life and culture up close. In short: Iten is special because it combines its 2,400m altitude training advantage, authentic culture, welcoming people, and stunning landscapes. -
