My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience. The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, everything was perfect—impeccable service, a welcoming atmosphere, and attention to detail in every aspect. The family that owned the place was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure I felt comfortable and well taken care of. The quality of the dinner exceeded my expectations, and I truly appreciated the effort that went into making everything just right

The hotel really surprised me in a very good way! Beautiful, cozy, comfortable, luxurious vibe and great place to rest and relax. Was awesome to stay here after doing the long hike from Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku, the food was delcious where you had infinite options including delicious variety of sake bar and wines. The satff were very friendly, you also have transport shuttle from/to Nakatsugawa and Nagiso train stations which is very convenient. The only problem was that we didn't stay long enough; definitely will be back in a future.

I absolutely loved this place. Staying here felt like going back in time. The house is a beautifully maintained old Japanese home, and you can really feel the history in every corner. We stayed in the loft, which was very well renovated. It preserved the traditional charm while adding a stylish and modern touch. The balance was perfect, and we had an incredibly comfortable sleep. Every detail was thoughtfully designed — from the Muji amenities to the high-quality bedsheets — everything was amazing. The host was impeccable, attentive, and truly made us feel taken care of. Dinner was lovely, and we also had the chance to rent bicycles, which were of very good quality, allowing us to explore the surroundings with ease. It was an amazing stay overall, and we will definitely be coming back again!

We loved everything about our stay here. The design was a beautiful mix of modern and traditional. The bed and couch were comfortable, the hinoki tub was great. Lots of space and fun and thoughtful details. Enjoyed relaxing and listening to records with a cup of coffee and exploring the beautiful area. The hosts were very responsive and even helped us book a dinner in the area as we were there when almost everything was closed.

Nagiso itself is an unremarkable city, but the surrounding area, the so called 'Japanese Alps' is fantastic. One can visit Tsumago, a preserved ancient Japanese style village, where one can even book a ryokan with kaiseki (excellent Japanese style) dinner, for an overnight stay. The famous 'Nakasendo trail', a 10 km walk in gorgeous countryside, from Magome to Tsumago is a major attraction of the region. Magome can be reached by public bus from Nagiso or Tsumago.

Visited three areas this time: Narai-juku/ Tsumago-juku/...

Visited three areas this time: Narai-juku/ Tsumago-juku/ Magome-juku: all are very nicely reserved areas and the hotel is located close except for Narai-juku (70km away). Had a 100% Soba twice at lunch nearby : both are very good. Dropped in several Michi-no-Eki and bought local foods and items at half of them.
