It is a nice place just to do nothing but it is not that beautiful. The resort we stayed at had absolutely nothing near or around it and the shuttle bus service was not consistent or frequent. One of the slightly less developed parts of Kyushu - a little touristy without being too busy. The locals are very friendly and the beach is perfect for surfing and chilling out. In Aoshima try Upper Yard burgers, Sanbarco fusion food and Aoshima Coffee. Also, don't miss Obi Castle town. We were there in June which is rainy / off season. We came to surf but the swell was low and it rained two of three days. The town has potential but is overall run down. Miyazaki is incredible. The people are friendly and kind. The scenery is breathtaking. The food is amazing. I recommend the local foods like chicken nanban and jidori, which you can get at most restaurants and izakayas. There's also a lot of citrus themed snacks and drinks, as hyuganatsu is a popular fruit. Miyazaki is also famous for beef and mango. It's also a great place for people who like history and legends. Many of the shrines are very old. There are many "power spots" related to the Shinto legends and gods. There are mountains, beaches, rivers, shrines, museums, cafes - all kinds of places to visit. I highly recommend visiting Miyazaki if you can. Regarding transportation, it is one of those places where renting a car is ideal. It can be a little difficult to travel around without a car here. It can be done, but if you don't have a lot of time to spend on public transportation I would recommend getting a car. Additionally, Miyazaki is a popular place for motorcycles, especially in the countryside on the winding mountain roads. Overall, Miyazaki is a great place to visit!Guest review byCarleyJapan - 10
