Location is perfect, with a pleasant, picturesque walk down to the lakeside promenade, where you have easy access by ferry to visit Varenna, Menaggio, and Bellagio. We liked the natural beauty, the history, the architecture and the food! It was our first time driving in Italy so that was a bit of a challenge but part of the adventure. Villa Carlotta was very interesting to visit - the gardens, house and gift shop were all lovely. We ate at several lovely wine bars, pizza places and cafes recommended by Lina and Alessandro. Tremezzo is an ideal spot for stay in Lake Como and the perfect break from the crowds in the larger towns. It’s an ideal location for exploring the entire lake. Most ferries call there and the no 10 bus runs an hourly service between Como and Colico. The downside is that travelling on the bus or boat with suitcases is not good. Both get busy and there is little luggage space - which also has to be shared with pushchairs. If there is no space you have to wait another hour and the same happens again. There does not appear to be any system of booking a shared shuttle service and even the hotel doesn’t suggest a share when several people need taxis.
