The Lily of the Lake
Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.

We really had just one evening on our way back from the Dingle Peninsula. We arrived at Killarney National Park just at sunset which was magical. I immediately regretted not having scheduled at least an extra day for seeing the place in daylight.Guest review byHannaGermany - 8.0
A lovely area, friendly people.
A lovely area, friendly people. There is a lot to keep you entertained and plenty of sights and things to do. The pubs are also brilliant, some having great music for you to dance to. I will definitely be back. The horse and trap are a must do, great way to see Killarney. The town is within walking range from Earls Court House. It is an easy town to get around and a good array of places close by to sight see. You must walk the park, so relaxing and you feel as if you are out in the country and not a town. We are in our 70's from Australia and loved Killarney. Gorgeous town, lots to do and the best fish and chip shop - on the right hand corner as you go into town but unfortunately the name escapes me - a modern shop with a glass frontage. We ate there twice. Great music and shopping. The Gap of Dunloe Tour was excellent and good value for money and very informative guides. The drive down over the Caha Pass and through the tunnels, then down through the Killarney National park is stunning. And lots of viewpoints along the way which is great. We spent two days and one night in Killarney.

Killarney has so much to offer.
Killarney has so much to offer. Walks into the National park, shops, restaurants and great entertainment. Easy access to Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Bearra Peninsula. So so much to offer. Our favourite places to visit - Ross Castle, Muckross House and Dinis Cottage. Dennaugh Cottage , Kenmare and Castlecove beach on Ring of Kerry. Killarney is an amazing town. I love it I go at least 2 to 3 times a year. It never gets boring. It has great Irish bars great music and great crack. It has everything, tours and a lovely waterfall where else do you need to go.Guest review bydawnIreland

The room itself was spacious for 4, the beds were comfy and the bathroom modern. We did not hear the music from the bar below at all, however we did hear the music coming from accross the street. Then again, there is live music everywhere in the central part of the town,and they do stop strictly until 11, so we had good sleeps.
