Belleek Castle, Ballina

Hotel in Ballina

This beautiful and historic castle is set within 1,000 acres of woodland. On the banks of the River Moy, it features a restaurant made from the remains of a 17th-century Spanish galleon.

Nice warm hotel full of original fixtures and #grand tour collection pieces and features, relaxing music by the fire but missing a trick by not having a speaker placed inside the grand piano, and pretending it was 'haunted' and playing all by itself. Good Barman / pints of Guinness and evening meal at the excellent Library Restaurant ( turbot flatfish tastes just like a salmon/cod hybrid and has 'two' eyes on one side of his head y'kno ! ) with a hearty morning breakfast and prompt service from the Jack Fenn's renovated stables & courtyard restaurant. Sleep Joe was in town so the girls were a little delirious, but the basement museum was well equipped with all manner of 'we have vays to make you talk' implements and medieval weaponry that might take him to task on his foreign policy objectives if he ever stumbled off-piste / full of Jameson from the safety of his beefed up battalion. 200 million year old relics were interesting ( no I don't mean Nancy Pelosi, she was left behind to mind the white house ) with all manner of petrified trees, dinosaur bones, jaws and pre-historic trilobites and cool fibonacci stone imprints down at the castle's dungeons, gave an interesting insight into how the world has de-evolved into a genderless species obsessed with virtual likes & insta-selfies since the halcyon days of prescribing torture was discontinued.

Ballina is like most towns or cities now.

Ballina is like most towns or cities now. Outside influences are starting to take hold. The addition of some of the fast food shops and multiple barbers is a manifestation I find worrying. The old charm of the town is not what it was.

Ballina has a lot to offer.

Ballina has a lot to offer. Very friendly people with lots to do in the town and a great gateway to other delights in county Mayo. Some really great pubs and restaurants and a great Arts Centre. The Jackie Clarke Collection was must see venue to visit if you are interested in Irish history. Only downside was the nocturnal boy racers that kept us awake on one of the nights.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't good so we didn't explore as much as we would have liked to - as the area had a lot to offer. However, we will be returning. The hotel itself is gorgeous and well maintained. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The facilities are wonderful.

Ballina is a friendly and very interesting town.

Ballina is a friendly and very interesting town. There are many places of interest with interest boards and murals explaining about people and places. The Jackie Clarke Collection is well worth a visit, and it is free. You can read about many people and events in the town and surrounding area then go visit them. It is clear the War of Independence and the Civil War had huge effects upon the town and surrounding area.

10 minute drive from Belmullet. Scenic peaceful location. Views of lake, sea and islands from one bedroom and from the other bedroom the sea and Mayo hills .There was a side view of Achill. The welcome pack was extremely generous i.e Bread, butter, milk, eggs, bottled water, apples, oranges, bananas, cereals and a tasty cake. Comfortable bed, spare bedding galore. Abundant storage.Plentiful supply of loo paper, detergent for washing machine and dishwasher. Soap and shampoo supplied. More than enough towels. Excellent Wifi, Netfix and Prime.

We have a two day stay at the lodge to attend a local wedding. Much more cost effective than the hotel, more space and freedom again than being stuck in a hotel room. The lodge was clean and had everything you needed. Would definitely stay here again in the future if we are back in Ballina.

The salmon festival was exceptional a credit to the people of ballina. The food at the hotel was faboulos, the upstairs bar closed very early, pity as the down stairs bar is a bit claustrophobic. The staff were as always lovely.
