It is a lovely village with much character. Calm and relaxing feel to the place. Great choice of places to eat and a good range of shops. Prices for food and drinks was reasonable.We visited in September and it was busy but not overly. We hired a car and visited some other sites on Samos. This feels like a boutique slightly upmarket place. Very pretty and picturesque but crowded. People are friendly and helpful, though. The beaches are very small and totally full of umbrellas. Not very relaxing at all. But good links, busses, affordable taxis to main town and archaeological sites. Also a catamaran ferry service to other islands. A vibrant harbour with tavernas along the waterfront. Option to walk or drive to ancient theatre and Tunnel of Eupalinos. Shopping is reasonably priced. Beaches are crystal clear. Enjoy the vibe! We came to visit the ancestral home of our family in Samos. Our Grandparents were from two other towns on the Island. We visited 8 spots on the Island and were completely convinced that staying in Pythagoreion was the best choice. It offered convenience, sights, food, and history beyond anywhere else on Samos. Pythagoroion is the place where the city of Samos was located in ancient times. The port of Pythagorion is the oldest man-made harbor. The old quay wall can still be found near the Hotel Tarsanas, from where the sacred path leads along the beach to the Temple of Hera in Ireon. Above the town there is an ancient amphitheater where events are still held. From the amphitheater, a path leads up to the Spigliani monastery with its cave chapel. Also from the amphitheater you can easily find the way to the Eupalinos Tunnel, the oldest tunnel that was carved into the rock by counter-boring. Greatful and very helpful staff ( starting from desk, spa, room service to waiters etc). We have a room with directed access to pool and it’s the best choice. We afraid of location ( casa cook samos is bordering Airport) but planes starting/landing are 12-15 / day and from third day of our stayed, planes are impercetible .
