Ideal location for a mountain escape but the village as a location overstays its welcome after 2-3 days. If one would like to stay longer as I did you should used as a basis to visit Metsobo Ioannina Konnitsa and Kalpaki. the nature is breathtaking truly amazing especially in the winter when it shows. The road is relatively OK but needs attention especially during foggy days. The two churces in mikro and megalo pappigo are unique historic and archritectural monuments but as unfortunately closed most of the year. Papigko is a beautiful village, cobbled streets with quaint shops, bars and restaurants and stunning views of surrounding mountains. The only disappointment was that it seems in mid-September many bars and restaurants seem to close for at least a week break (some maybe a little longer). We were informed it was a break before the autumn/winter season starts. However there was still some places to eat and drink so all was ok. Lots a walking trails around for keen hikers. we visited during summer and it was the busiest village of Zagoria which made it more socializing than others. Also it has cute coffee shops and tavernas almost every corner. There are tons of things to do in and around Papigko. From the walks around the picturesque village, to exploring the culinary experiences on offer, to the serene hikes and the Papigko rock pools. Before reaching Papigko, be sure to stop on the banks of the Boithomatis river and have a dip in the cold waters on a hot summer's day. The place is equally as breathtaking in the winter as it is in the summer. The air is clean it almost has a taste to it from all the lovely flora and fauna. Papigko is situated in the Zagoria mountains with interesting history and spectacular scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks in the mountains and in the Vikos Gorge. The surrounding villages have lots to see with interesting architecture and history. Our 5-night visit was just right. But most important of all, the friendliness of the stuff and the managers, from the very first to the very last moment. The village is a traditional protected UNESCO pedestrian zone, so they even carried our luggage thru the narrow streets from the parking (next to the old church) to the hotel with an ATV. The last hotel in the village, it is quiet and incredibly peaceful. The view of the mountains is fantastic. The rooms (we rented two) are very spacious, in a mountain style. Good bedding, good towels with products in the bathroom. The breakfast is incredibly good and copious. The owner is very smiling and welcoming.
