Nestled amongst the mountains with paths and tracks leading all over what’s not to like? Sadly, the general facilities here have gone. No shop for example. One place did have a sign out for coffee, but there could be an opportunity here for someone. Worth climbing up the Cateran Trail heading south to get stunning views looking down on the village. Cannot fault the scenery but you must be a keen hiker or golfer to spend time here. You are miles from anywhere and only one main road, the A93, which is awful. Days out mean a challenging drive on roads with steep climbs, sharp bends and constant gear changes. This can be tiring and a little frightening at night. A great area for walkers or hikers & bird watchers & if you like peace & quiet. The Wifi was not great where stayed. In these modern times most people need Wifi to keep in touch with family & friends. Ballater is a nice place to visit & some good walks & well sign posted. Nice cafes & shops there too.
