Spacious and comfortable. Although the garden was away from the cottage, the dining room doorway and stone steps had sunshine from late morning until evening. It is located just this side of the wall on the photo where the red plants are, around the corner of the cottage. Sitting in the doorway over the steps surrounded by climbing plants in this tiny courtyard was lovely. We did have our own director’s chairs so could sit in the sunshine with a glass of bubbly, chilling and reading and enjoying the peaceful village and having a chat with one or two people as they passed.

Settled in the Dartmoor national park, it is a very quiet and comforting get away. You can have a short walk with children from there as well as long ones. Plenty of nice activities in the hotel (boardgames, crocket, tennis, walks). The place is full of charm and history. The staff is extremely kind and efficient. They made the stay easy for a single parent, offering private dining. The kids menu was varied, delicious and decently priced. The restaurant was a treat for me as well.

Very charming and comfy, cozy room and big living area, the staff was very nice. Breakfast was good and with lots of choices. Had a pint and dinner two nights in a row and it was quite lovely, some regulars from the town and other guests, overall an amazing experience and many trails easily accessible for hikers ;-)

It is an old coach house, architecturally interesting, with quirky stairs and halls that wind around. The location is right across from St Michael the Archaengel church with a view from the restaurant (where a real chef prepares gourmet English food with local produce)

We visited on a sunny day in early March.

We visited on a sunny day in early March. The village is very small with the Ring of Bells restaurant, pub, and accommodation and a few other holiday cottages. I would guess that it’s a madhouse in the holiday months but North Bovey is truly peaceful and gorgeous in the off-season.

A hamlet of ‘holiday’ cottages that because of national park protected status, need full time ongoing occupation and maintenance. The Ring of Bells is Egon Ronay with the price tag, not a comfortable relaxing place to meet the locals and socialise by a roaring fire of an evening. There are limits to how far one wants to be exploited. The hamlet is chocolate-box pretty, but there’s no beating heart to it somehow. It’s the same everywhere nowadays - like holidaying in a cottage theme park. Setting is glorious and peaceful and a great place as a base for walking. If you have a large car, the single track lanes can be interesting and don’t rely on maps for navigation! The only poo bin for furry friends and litter is in the free car park .Its all relative I guess and a matter of personal taste, but I don’t think we shall go back.
