Hawkshead is a lovely village, with enough to do without being busy or over-commercial.All the places we visited were friendly, good value and authentic. Walks around the village are lovely, covering a range of abilities. Hawkshead also has historical importance, with its links to Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

Hawkshead is a tranquil little village, it has quite a few bed and breakfast and pubs. There is nowhere better to stay than this little gem, if you’re just going for a meal there are plenty of places to go. Even if not staying there it’s well worth the visit. The trip across the ferry makes the holiday.

We stayed for 4 nights which allowed us to explore Hawkshead, Coniston, Ambleside and Hardnott pass/Roman fort which was stunning. We could have easily stayed another day or two, but 4 days and nights means we're keen for more another time. Hawkshead itself is a perfect spot as a base for exploring further afield in the lakes. It is a relatively quiet village after the tourists go home, but there are two lovely pubs which give just the right amount of life for us. If you're looking for a livelier evening scene, Ambleside ticks those boxes.

I did book a small single room, and it was indeed very compact, although adequate, and well fitted and supplied. There is no mountain view, however, just a very suburban backyard out of the window, which thankfully is able to be opened. Hawkshead is a lovely little village, and away from a lot of the busyness of the Easter weekend in the Lake District. Ambleside was a traffic jam all weekend.

Quirky, clean and excellent location. There are limited car spaces at the rear otherwise you have to park on the main car park 400 meters away. Excellent food at dinner. We booked this as a last minute add on to our holiday in the lake District and we are glad we did.
