Glasgow is brilliant - there is so much to see and do. Its not a "touristy" city in that it doesnt have a well defined tourist zone, its a fully functioning working city. Having said that, it has brilliant museums, restaurants and shops. Some seriously urban areas, then a few minutes away, great parks. You might need to plan a little more than other places, but its well worth it. The West End (Byres Road), Kelvingrove, Glasgow green, and the centre are all brilliant. I visit Glasgow regularly as there's always things to do and see. Personally, I use the train a lot and find that I can quickly get out into the beautiful Scottish countryside easily and quickly. Glasgow spoils you for choice in terms of places to eat and drink. Whether it's typical pub food (with or without haggis) or Italian, Japanese, Korean, Indian, you'll definitely find a good quality and reasonably priced place to eat and drink. Check out the art galleries, museums and cultural hotspots and you won't be disappointed, even if the grey weather can make things look a bit tired. Glasgow is possibly the most under rated city we have ever explored, it as a fabulous place. The architecture is sensational, loads of wonderful vibrant pubs and resturants, easily walkable with great transport links but the absolute crowning jewel are the people of Glasgow, so welcoming and friendly. Glasgow has become a dump over the past 10 years, like many UK cities. It's run down and known as the drug deaths capital of Europe. The city centre is relatively safe, just very dirty and beggars everywhere. There are many restaurants and pubs with decent food at affordable prices.
