Portland is a lovely location set a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of Weymouth. There is plenty to do and see in and around Portland, although it is easier to do these things eg; Portland Bill when you have access to your own transport. We absolutely would recommend dining at Crab House Cafe which is set near the end of the causeway before reaching Weymouth itself, and there is a quirky place called White Stones Gallery and Cafe in Easton, which has lots of local art on display amidst the tables customers eat at. There is also a fantastic area outside. Lovely garden with more artwork and tables spread about outside. We also dined as non residents at the Portland Heights Hotel which is another good dining experience with the added delight weather permitting of watching the sun setting, and of the wonderful view of Chesil Beach in its full glory.Guest review byRees - 10.0

Portland is great for a weekend of walking as the paths round the island are well signposted and very scenic. The Art cafe in Easton was great with delicious cakes and a secret garden. So the marina area is very nice.
So the marina area is very nice. You have lots of paddle board and kayak activity from leisure centre and beach next to the castle. The pub life around the area is okay if you like that sort of thing. I liked the beehive bakery for bread in unit 3. Also they have a cafe and the price is just right. Lovely place to stay plenty of choice for meals out, fresh sea air with amazing views and walks on your doorstep, just love Portland. Portland is a hidden gem, It is very raw, so don’t expect a glossy holiday resort. What you get is an island full of prisons, and quarries with stunning scenery, and hidden gems such as pirates graveyards, ruined castles, hidden coves, a sculpture park, and the famous Portland Bill lighthouse. It is a mix of the old and modern with a new sailing, and water sports centre, bars and restaurants in the revamped harbour area, and a fantastic old pub, and cafe that sit right on Chesil beach ideal for watching the sunset on a summers evening.Guest review byKnightsUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Portland is at the extremities of Dorset. Stunning views along Chesil Beach and beyond. Easy transport links making it easy to park the car and have a few days break. The house was great - really cosy, clean and welcoming. The little touches were much appreciated; coffee, tea, biscuits, sparkling drink, dishwasher tabs, washing powder, toilet roll, the list goes on! The house was in a good situation, only a few minutes walk to the beach. The parking tight but perfectly doable. The host called Cat has a really nice personality : welcoming, smiling and helpful. The room was great : clean, comfortable and peaceful with a large en-suite bathroom and view of Chesil Beach and the sea. Cat prepared an excellent breakfast with good choice, quality and quantity. The balcony by the breakfast room is available to all guests. A Co-Op shop, fish & chip shop, free public car park and pubs are nearby. Margaret was a super host, a mine of information with plenty of recommendations for local restaurants and a readiness to help whenever it was necessary, although not interfering in any way.
