Location is the best, because train station is 2 min by walking distance, and we were so happy when come back from other cities and hotel was just a min from station. In lobby is a schedule for train, and also unlimited drinks on coffee machine and snacks! City center is 8 min by walking, so really good location, 30 min from Basel by train, 30 min from Colmar and about hour from Strasburg.

A History of Setting Wheels in Motion

Although Mulhouse has a colourful historic centre with cobbled squares and half-timbered houses, the city is best known for its industry. Textile production shot the city into the limelight, a fact detailed in the Museum of Printed Textiles.

The world’s largest train collection is in the multi-coloured French National Railway Museum, next to the Electropolis electricity museum. The National Automobile Museum is also the world’s largest and features the Schlumpf Collection of classic cars and an exhibition track. To the east is the Parc Expo Mulhouse event centre, while west is the train station.

The heart of the city is Place de la Réunion where pavement cafes overlook the 16th-century town hall, decorated with frescoes and a 2-sided staircase. The Mulhouse Christmas market is held here at the foot of the Protestant St Stephen’s Church with its towering spire.

The Catholic church of the same name also has a tall tower, and the Tour de l’Europe is a modern skyscraper with a restaurant on top. Its 3 sides face France, Switzerland and Germany, reflecting the history of the Alsace which was under Swiss and German rule before joining France once and for all.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg also serves the 3 countries, and Booking.com has a good range of luxury hotels, and cheap apartments and B&Bs nearby.

    A charming city, especially the old town with it's cobble...

    A charming city, especially the old town with it's cobble paved streets and character shops and cafés. The museum is a must visit attraction. It a good base to explore the region and discover the charming villages and neighbouring towns. We found the people to be friendly and most helpful especially to non French speaking visitors. Visitors need to familiarise themselves with the general opening and closing times of the shops during the week.

    Mulhouse is a crowded city, close to Swiss border.

    Mulhouse is a crowded city, close to Swiss border. Narrow streets and cars parked on both sides, the place didn't feel safe while traveling with family. we stayed in a crowded neighborhood, where people smoked and drank in the streets. Tip: Before you book a place in France, look at the Google satellite view or do some research.

    We stayed for two days.

    We stayed for two days. The old city center is beautiful, but outside of this, I've never seen so many shady people lurking around. Went to a store one street away from the old city square, and the salesperson was behind a glass wall that also had bars covering it. Nearby, I was filming the beautiful architecture, and someone yelled to stop filming in that area - again, one street away from the main town square. Didn't encounter problems otherwise, and everyone was very friendly at shops or restaurants.

    Gracious, helpful, storekeepers and staff, and just random people on the street. A simple, smiling, "Bonjour" goes a long way. Take a moment to appreciate how good everyday life in France can be, in just the simple things. Grand older buildings among the new, somehow fitting together in a mosaic of possibility and potential. A random mural adorning a wall. The tapestry of a city that people actually live in, going about their day. Grabbing a fresh baguette, some amazing cheese... Visit the car museum. The train museum. Base yourself in Mulhouse and take side trips to Colmar, or Freiburg. Possibilities abound,

    The centre of the town is very attractive and there are...

    The centre of the town is very attractive and there are plenty of bars and restaurants. I choose to eat at "Taverne Des Chevaliers Teutoniques" and would recommend it for food and drink. The Musée National De L'Automobile is a must-visit attraction even if you are not a big fan of cars. The Cité Du Train is also a wonderful museum that you should visit if you have time I'd recommend buying a book of 10 tickets for the excellent transport system - they can be bought at the tram stops. There are also other options for transport tickets

    Perfect small town with lots of Boutiques in the Old Town.

    Perfect small town with lots of Boutiques in the Old Town. The amount of small businesses who really give you a welcomed vibe is amazing. Don't forget to pick up some locally designed scarfs or pottery. Old Town is perfect for dinner and it really wasn't as heavy on the wallet as first planned.

    Small hotel in a little bit depressing surroundings, just a few steps away from the city center. The hotel staff was very friendly, the hotel is small but clean, with rooms just big enough for sleeping overnight, large secured parking for the cars, simple but sufficient breakfast. Good place for tourists coming to explore Mulhouse but there is no space for working in a room if needed. Good value for the money compared to other options near the city center

    Comfortable, fully equipped loft apartment in historic building from1644. Pick-up of keys - no problem, hotel reception always open, friendly staff. Remark: I have used parking nearby main station, but the 15 min. walks in fresh morning, thru quiet and empty old streets were the magic moments. Great to stay there and enjoy the old city centre atmosphere, the place where old meets new.
