Such a beautiful area with access to some of the best hiking routes in the Picos de Europa National Park. The town is very quaint with all the necessary amenities and a lovely atmosphere for walkers. Arenas is a great little town with bars, restaurants and shops, enough to be able to choose from but not so many as to be too busy. The cultural heritage is well seen and cared for and a short walk around the village exploring, a few local cheese shops to try the queso de Cabrales, or the cheese caves. From here you can do so many things, walks, excursions, climbing, adventures! We ate mostly in our hotel but had a lovely drink and tapas in bar El Raitán.Guest review byRebecca - 10.0

The town is in the middle of the Picos de Europa. Although not as well-known as some other mountain ranges, the scenery is as good as the Alps, if not better, The town centre is fairly flat with plenty of bars and restaurants. A pleasant village in the Picos - provides a better alternative to the busy and more popular Potes and Panes. Eating out is reasoanbly easy, though choice can be a bit limited. We had timed our visit to coincide with the Cabrales cheese and cider festival (last Sunday of August) as we have attended this before and enjoyed it and we were not disappointed; the whole town was buzzing with people, traditional Asturian music and costumes and lots of superb traditional food. The room is big but WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. Considering that climate change you can find very hot days in arenas de Cabrales and in that case the room is very very hot. For the winter it has heating. Besides that the hotel is very clean with very friendly workers and it is very well located. I really appreciate the friendly and homely atmosphere of the hotel. There was 8 of us on motorcycles using it as a base to ride the Picos mountain area so the location is brilliant. We stayed there for three nights and booked the evening meal which was a five course tasting menu different every night. The food was out of this world just like a fine dining restaurant with great choices of wines and beers. The beds are very comfortable and all of the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
