What Guests Said About Cairns:

We visited Cairns twice during our travels.

We visited Cairns twice during our travels. The first time we explored all the main attractions- Aquarium, Botanic Gardens, Fitzroy Island and stayed in a hotel. Our second stay was for a bit of down time having travelled up to Daintree and the Tablelands. We really wanted a bit of relaxation and self cooking so this apartment was perfect. Great food around the pier area. The seafood on the Prawn Star was superb and if you’re self catering, then Woolies has everything you need. The lagoon is perfect for families as is the Muddy Cafe and play park.

We travelled to Cairns in October for a week, weather was perfect! Around 32 degrees every day. Not too crowded and yet everything was available for us to enjoy. Very relaxing, laid back environment, we particularly enjoyed the Esplanade and the lagoon area - we walked there every day. We loved all the gardens and beautifully kept foliage. The markets were fun to explore and travelling around by bus is super easy. Thank you Cairns for a truly wonderful break from our busy lives!

It's a good place to fly into, and go on and see other places, like the far north and Port Douglas, and on the train up to Kuranda. It's just another city, really. My 3rd time there, and apart from good Vietnamese food, (Pho Viet, opposite the library), there is nothing all that appealing. There are very few taxis, I didn't know this- uber is the way to get about apparently. Otherwise get your walking shoes on. It is slightly cheaper to eat out in Cairns than Port Douglas, though.

I really only saw a small part of Cairns only being there 4 days, so I did & saw what I really wanted to see- Kuranda by train, Crystal Cascades, Green Island, Nth Esplanade for migratory birds especially , Botanic Gardens for butterflies. Didn’t explore downtown city cairns

Cairns is nice and flat and most things are in walking distance. Otherwise a taxi or Uber will get you where you need to go. Many great restaurants and steak houses. Try the Cock and Bull, they serve huge meals, offer kangaroo and croc on their menu and the staff are fantastic. A trip to Kuranda is a must if you have not been there before. I highly recommend taking the scenic railway up and the skyrail down. This allows for the best flexibility with time. Don't forget the islands and the reef. All are well worth a visit. If you like military things then the Australian Armour & Artillery Museum is a must. We go every time we are in Cairns. It is a private collection and there is always something new to see.

Having lived in Cairns previously and now return regularly...

Having lived in Cairns previously and now return regularly to see family and friends, while there is a lot about the crime there in the media, i have never experienced it myself. It is important to lock your car and be aware of your surroundings and not flash money or personal wealth around, but i dont think this problem is any worse then anywhere else. The climate is great, and even if it rains, it is warm rain and soon dries. Great opportunitues to see the reef and rainforest. Prices are geared towards tourists so wouldnt do these tours too often, but for a lifetime experience, they are good.

Located in the best corner block in Cairns. Close to all the good bits about Cairns - Esplanade and lagoon pool. The reef terminal hub for quick ferry access to islands and outer reef is a 2 minute walk. Casino is literally across the road. You are also above the small, but groovy Flamingo Cocktail Bar, then, very close to 3 Wolves gin brewery and, in other direction, Salt House for sunset cocktails. This is an older hotel that holds its own in a quickly developing, competitive tourist town. Great value, helpful staff, great location.

The location to central Cairns is great! Very easy to get around. We had a double pram so that comes with all its own issues. The hotel was very easy to get to from the airport and was really cheap in a taxi ($25 AUD). Muddy's playground and cafe is a short 3 minute walk and is fantastic for little kids. Goose Cafe up the road in the opposite direction is the best coffee and breakfast in Cairns. we loved it!
