Great location, right next to the big Woolies store and close to night market as well as restaurants along the Esplanade. Big room, very comfortable bed, clean bathroom. Peter, the owner & manager is great to talk to and is always available if you need any help. Get in touch with him before you book an attractions, he'll be able to get you a discount of the advertised price. I'll definitely stay again.

The hotel location was perfect- convenient for both Great Barrier Reef and Kuranda village tour pickups. it was also very convenient for a stroll on the Esplanade and its plethora of restaurants and nighttime entertainment. we also ate at The Backyard Restaurant- the dinners were delicious and the staff were outstanding, accommodating several special requests. The rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms with ample amenities. They could benefit from food options at the coffee bar if one wants a quick or light breakfast, and the coffee bar should stay open later. The pool was clean annd spacious though the deck might be very tight during high season. Umbrellas and towels for excursions at the front desk were a nice touch.

Having lived in Cairns previously and now return regularly...

Having lived in Cairns previously and now return regularly to see family and friends, while there is a lot about the crime there in the media, i have never experienced it myself. It is important to lock your car and be aware of your surroundings and not flash money or personal wealth around, but i dont think this problem is any worse then anywhere else. The climate is great, and even if it rains, it is warm rain and soon dries. Great opportunitues to see the reef and rainforest. Prices are geared towards tourists so wouldnt do these tours too often, but for a lifetime experience, they are good.

Cairns is an amazing place to visit. Weather was great and we were able to attend a conference as well as explore Cairns and surroundings including a trip to Port Douglas, Train trip to the mountain and swimming at popular beach and swimming place in Palm Cove. We stayed in central Cairns in a clean and reasonable place. Our nightly visit to the Food Market Court adds fresh and delicious meals to our menu.

There really isn’t much to see in downtown Cairns.

There really isn’t much to see in downtown Cairns. To enjoy it, you have to go out to the islands, but this always requires paying a high price, and there aren’t many options in terms of timing. I would instead recommend staying briefly at a resort on one of the islands and then returning. Kuranda and the other rainforests were more developed as tourist attractions than I expected. Everywhere you go, you have to pay an entrance fee, and the shops all felt the same without any unique character.

We enjoyed our stay in Mercure Cairns very much. The room itself was comfortable as were the beds. It is a good location, minutes walk from the Esplanade, Lagoon and Muddies Playground. Lots of great restaurants and bars and convenience stores in the immediate vicinity. The restaurant at the hotel is closed for renovations so we went for breakfast each morning at the Novotel - less than a minute walk away and the staff there were friendly and the buffet selection was great. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful.

The location is perfect, close to the marina and esplanade. Their pool is great, and only accessible by guests. The pool bar - amazing. There’s something about drinking pina coladas next to a pool in a tropical paradise that just feels relaxing. And Kanokkun at the pool bar makes the best pina coladas! The room was huge with a gorgeous view. And the pillows are ridiculously comfy. This is my go to hotel when visiting Cairns, you just feel so fancy staying here!
