We found this place by chance, we needed a nights stop over in Koh Samui. And what a fantastic find it was, everything about this place is brilliant, from the staff to the views from the room. The property is amazing, fantastically designed. Unfortunately we only had one night here, we will definitely be back but next time for longer.

The Summer House Samui, hotel in Koh Samui

I normally never leave bad reviews, but this time I feel that I must. I arrived on a weekday at 10pm, after 14 hours of traveling. When I arrived, there was a pubquiz going on outside with about 40 people participating. My room was at the second floor of that same restaurant. The room was nice and spacious, though it was a bit strange that you enter via the restaurant kitchen, and that the door couldn’t be locked so everyone can walk in. As I could literally hear all conversations outside, I waited for some time to see if it was getting less. Meanwhile they just kicked off their music round, and after an hour I decided that I wanted to leave. I was really tired after the long journey and needed sleep. I walked down and spoke with a Thai employee who mentioned that I couldn’t get a refund but only a different room near the parking lot. I mentioned that I want some rest and I just prefer to leave. He went to get the owner, who I politely mentioned the same too. The owner completely brushed me off by saying I should just accept the other room (which was 30% less expensive than what I paid for). I mentioned to him that I do not want to stay at a room near the restaurant and parking lot due to the noise, plus that I didn’t book that cheaper room but the one upstairs. He again brushed me off by saying I can have the old room, that they will stop soon and that it wasn’t that late anyways. He came across to me as aggressive (which I told him as well) and clearly didn’t want to listen to me, nor help or give me a refund. Meanwhile it was already 2315 and I did not have another place to go. I told him that I didn’t want to talk to him anymore, as I realized that it was talking to a brick wall. I accepted the room, heard all 40 people leave with cars throughout the night, and left at 6am in the morning. The bed in the room was dirty. Someone must have slept in it, as I found multiple black hairs and stains on the sheet.

The room was very clean and well equipped with two balconies, one facing the nice pool. The staff was helpful. We had a car and could park it inside the private area. The condo is a few hundred meters from the main road, which is a plus if you have a car or a motorbike because it is quiet. Reception is open 24 hours.

There is a high pollution on this Island.

There is a high pollution on this Island. Garbage everywhere and most tourists don’t care about and even let their own garbage at the beach. Big amount of traffic all day long. Backpacker riding scooter also when drunk or smoked weed. Many accidents can be seen.

The streets in Samui are dirty, not taken care of.

The streets in Samui are dirty, not taken care of. There are no rubbish bins on common areas; I was always carrying my trash until I find a 7/11 shop- they have bins in front. Many buildings are abandoned and left to deteriorate to rubbles. Those are places that many people and I guess locals throw their rubbish, so the view is not nice. There aren't many things you can do in Samui - of course parties and cannabis are available. And there are beautiful beaches too. Krabi and Phuket are way more diverse regarding activities for any kind of interest.

We took the car over from the mainland to Koh Samui which was a mission in itself. When we got to Koh Samui it was ok very much like the rest of Thailand. We come from NZ so are spoilt with beautiful beaches where we live so don't really see Beach's as a day out. The town is just like any other Town on the mainland. Was not really worth the trip over wished I had just stayed on the mainland. The weather whilst we were there was always overcast but always hot .we are not into the booze scene so cannot comment about clubs and drinking joints etc. cannabis is legal in Thailand now so plenty of variety of that's what your looking for. Lots of markets going on if you like cheap that. All in all average I probably will never go back.

Koh Samui airport is very comfortable to arrive at.

Koh Samui airport is very comfortable to arrive at. The residents are warm, friendly and I felt safe travelling there. I found the use on concrete very disappointing around the island, more can be done to make this island more beautiful with the use of durable aesthetically pleasing materials as the top hotels have been made in exquisite style. The beaches are breathtakingly beautiful.

I really don't understand why Koh Samui is so popular.

I really don't understand why Koh Samui is so popular. It's busy, it's expensive, kind of trashy in places. It's definitely not a tropical paradise. I went once and I'll definitely never go back.

Nice island to visit. Easy to get around.

Nice island to visit. Easy to get around. Tourist friendly, locals welcome you everywhere you go. Plenty of good and inexpensive food choices. Traffic could be considered chaotic by some, but we rented a car and got used to the traffic quite quickly. Airport was built by Bangkok Airways and is made up of a series of hut/shack structures, very "resorty" and well done (see pics). Draw back is Bangkok Airways has monopoly on all flights in and out of Samui, so prices are slightly higher when compared with other domestic flights in Thailand.
